Mina stared at the discoloured land that was once full of flowers and grass. She remembers how her mother would always remind her to water them. She never really enjoyed doing it. But looking at it now made it worse. No grass. No flowers. Nothing. Just like how she hopes the thoughts on her mind would be.
Usually she'd rather stay inside the house and enjoy her friends' company. But now, she chose to stare into the dried soil in front of her in hope to calm her mind from the waves of thoughts and questions coming in.
"It's a shame the soil dried up." Nayeon's voice suddenly appeared. Mina's eyes followed the former as she sat beside her. "My mom always envy your mom's garden."
"Yeah." Mina let out a small laugh remembering how Nayeon's mother would always ask her what's her mom's secret why she grew beautiful plants in her garden. "I remember."
"Why are you here?" Nayeon asked, without looking at Mina.
"Why are you?" Mina returned the question, laughing. "Isn't it your wedding the next day after tomorrow?"
"Maybe." Nayeon shrugged and ignored the questioning look Mina gave her. "Are you here because of Chaeyoung-ah?"
"Not exactly." Mina answered. "I don't know. Something feels off. Like it doesn't add up."
Hearing Mina's serious tone, Nayeon turned to look to her while resting her elbows on her knees as she put her chin on her hands, "What do you mean?"
Mina drew a long breath, she might be wrong about this but she also might be right. There is something in her guts she can't put a finger on that makes her feel uneasy. "I don't know.. Do you still remember that time you told my mom we have project together even though we don't really have just so she would let me stay in your house?"
"Yeah? Hey don't make me sound bad! It's your idea." Nayeon protested, "You told me to do that because you're sad."
"Correct." Mina answered, "I was sad. Do you remember why?"
"Do I really have to remember everything, Mina?" Nayeon joked, "But yeah. That was the time you told me and Sana that you feel like you're losing Chaeyoung. And you're complaining because she don't want you to touch he- Oh my God!"
Mina widened her eyes as if she's saying "Right? Exactly. It's cool. You get what I'm thinking."
"That's the time you told us she don't want you touching her. Right? God! I have a good memory!" Nayeon exclaimed proudly, "So what about that?"
Mina sighed in defeat, she thought Nayeon would puzzled it. Turns out she's just happy she still remember things.
"Well, I don't know how to put this.." Mina started, staring at the dried soil. "She's feeling that way even before the fire happens. She's aggressively refusing touches. I thought she would only do that to me but I was wrong. She doesn't want to be touched by anyone."
Nayeon keeps her silence, trying to rationalise the information she just heard from Mina.
"So what if we're wrong? Maybe it's not the fire alone that caused her to feel like this." Mina added, "Maybe it's not just because of the fire."
Mina's guts pushed her to believe her own assumption. Assumption that leads to a lot of questions.
"If it's not only the fire, then what else?" Nayeon asked the main question Mina also have on her mind. Something she doesn't know the answer to.
Mina stayed quiet because she herself, don't know the answer. She knows she can't ask Chaeyoung about it. But if there is really something else that caused this aside from the fire, her world would definitely crush. She wouldn't know what to feel. Because if all her assumptions are true, then that would mean whatever caused this must've been happening even when they are still together.
"You don't understand."
As if on cue, Somi's voice popped on Mina's head.
"This is not my story to tell."
Fuck. This made Mina feel more sure about her hunch. And she feels hurt at the same time.. Somi knows about it. And she don't.
"Hey." Nayeon snapped, making Mina flinched. "What are you thinking, Mina?"
"Ah. N-nothing." Mina responded, she knows Nayeon didn't believe her but the latter, maybe because she's also tired, did not say anything else. It's easier to just agree than to ask more question.
Mina needs to know the answers and right now, the only key to unlock those answers is the person she hates from head to toe.
How on earth will she find Somi? Just thinking of putting effort to know the latter's social media accounts makes Mina cringe. It's sending shivers to her spine. She can't ask Nayeon or Jeongyeon for Somi's number. She just can't. Her pride is too high to do that. But she needs to. If she wants to get answers, she needs to find Somi.
"Nayeon.." She called quietly, "D-do you have Somi's number?"
Nayeon was taken aback by Mina's question. She hated the girl from heaven to hell and the last time they're close to each other, hell almost open. "Why do you need her number?"
The questioning tone in Nayeon's voice makes Mina want to just forget about this whole talking to Somi thing, but then she remembers Chaeyoung and her questions. "I just need to talk to her."
"Mina.." Nayeon looked at Mina in the eyes, as if searching for explanations. "What are you planning to do?"
"Nothing bad, I swear." Mina laughed. Why is Nayeon questioning her like this? It's not like she's violent or harmful. "I'm not going
To do anything, Nayeon."Nayeon looked at Mina for a good minute, contemplating whether to believe her or not. Mina's not harmful yet she can be brutal. Her words can be cruel when she's angry and Somi can easily trigger her just by breathing.
"I don't have her number." Nayeon finally spoke, "Why the hell would I have her number? I'm loyal to Jeong. I'm getting married with her for God's sake."
Mina face palmed herself, not really sure if she's annoyed or wants to laugh. All she knows is she's so done with Nayeon.
"But." Nayeon added. "Kwangsoo. The officer I knew from the station, the one who talked to us, he have Somi's number."
"Really?" Mina exclaimed, "Could you ask him her number?"
"Yeah." Nayeon rolls her eyes.
Nayeon was about to stand up when Mina pulled her into a big hug. "Thanks, Nayeon."
Now, Mina just needs to wait for Somi's number and soon, she'll have the answers to her questions.
