Mina hates horror movies. Not because it's scary. It's because she finds it ironic whenever there's a scene where the main character see something suspicious but still walk towards it.
She finds it ridiculously dumb that the characters, despite knowing the danger that lies within some place, would still go there.
But now, she knows why. It's the curiosity that drives those characters walk into the unknown.
Curiosity that is driving her at this very moment as she saw someone pacing back and forth in her front gate.
And just like the characters in the horror movies, she walks closer the person not knowing what to expect.
Something about this person feels familiar. The familiarity Mina's feeling pulls her towards to whoever this person is.
To her surprise, the person stopped pacing when Mina is just a feet away. The latter's heart sped up. Her heart is now filled with anticipation.
When she's about to stretch her arms, the person suddenly turn around to face her.
For a moment, Mina was lost for words. All she can do is release a shaky breath as she looks at the person standing in front of her.
The familiarity she's been feeling- it's the feeling of coming home. With these pair of eyes looking straight at her soul, she's at home. She wish it wasn't true. But it is. After all these years, Chaeyoung is still Mina's home.
"Chaeyoung-ah." Mina called, weakly.
Mina's heart broke into pieces seeing Chaeyoung's face once more but this time it's not because of the pain the latter had caused her.
"Chaeyoung-ah." Mina called again as her hands naturally cupped Chaeyoung's face, who's covered with dirt.
What happened next felt like deja vu when Chaeyoung pushed Mina's hands away like the first time Chaeyoung did that to her six years ago, making Mina stared at the girl blankly.
And the pain comes rushing through her nerves once again, disabling her movements.
Chaeyoung then balled up in front of Mina's gate like she was afraid to release her knees, rocking herself back and forth as she stares to nothing at all.
Mina scanned the latter. From her hair that hungs like a tangled mop of black and blonde, to her face, the black circles under her eyes, her cheekbones whose standing proudly in result of weight loss. Mina's eyes then landed to Chaeyoung's bare feet. She doesn't wear anything, her feet are covered with dirt and some wounds. Mina could tell it still fresh by the bloodstains that had been dried on her skin.
Mina called her again but she didn't respond as if she didn't hear her voice. Chaeyoung kept on rocking herself while pulling the end of her worn out sleeves.
What's going on? Is all Mina could ask herself. Her mind's at lost in no direction at all. She doesn't know what's happening. She froze on her spot, while her gaze stayed on Chaeyoung.
Suddenly something snapped her out of her mind.
"Really? I'll sing for you then."
Her own words flashed on her head as she heard Chaeyoung hummed the same song, she sang for her that night.
It's LeeHi's song, only. The song Chaeyoung always ask her to sing whenever the latter don't feel good. It's the song Mina always sing to calm Chaeyoung down.
Mina doesn't know how many heart break can her heart endure before it completely shutters. But she's sure she can't count how many times her heart breaks since she saw Chaeyoung again.
Chaeyoung didn't stop humming as she continued pulling the hem of her sleeves and rocking herself back and forth.
Mina knows what's going on, it took her time but she knows what Chaeyoung is doing.
She then slowly sit beside Chaeyoung, leaving a distance between them. Mina feels like something heavy is being pressed on her chest as she looks at her ex girlfriend.
She inhaled deeply before started humming with Chaeyoung.
After some time, for some reason the latter stopped and lifted her head. Meeting Mina's eyes.
That's it. That's the warm eyes that always makes Mina weak.
"M-Minari.." Chaeyoung stuttered. "M-Minari."
Mina smiled widely, hearing her name. "Hi." she greeted. "Let's go inside?"
"M-Minari." Chaeyoung repeated.
Mina tried to hide the confusion inside her. She have a lot of questions for Chaeyoung. Like is she the same person she saw pacing here the other night? Where did she go? And What happened to her?
But the shivers sent down to Chaeyoung's body by the cold night breeze, made Mina set aside those questions. All she knows is something's really strange.
Mina helped herself got up then stretches her arms, "Chaeyoung-ah, it's cold here. Let's go inside?"
Chaeyoung looked up with eyes that looks like from a five year old pleading for candy. She then smiled widely as she hold Mina's hand waiting for her.
Mina felt electricity run through her veins as she felt Chaeyoung's cold hands touched her warm ones. People with cold hands have warm hearts. She thought.
The taller girl assisted Chaeyoung inside, one hand holding the groceries, the other on Chaeyoung's.
The latter sat on the couch while waiting for Mina who went to her room. She waited patiently, with her head hanging low and her hands on her knees.
When Mina came back, she saw how Chaeyoung didn't move an inch. Still on the same position she have when Mina left her.
"Chaeng." she called, making Chaeyoung look up. "I prepare a hot bath for you, do you want to go in now or eat first?"
Chaeyoung just nodded and started walking towards Mina's direction.
"Uh. Are you going to take a bath first?" Mina asked, and when Chaeyoung just nodded again, she points to the direction of her bathroom which the shorter girl followed.
Something is strange. Something is wrong. Mina can feel it. She just can't put a finger as to what it is.
Somewhat seeing Chaeyoung once again haven't sunk in her mind just yet. She sometimes picture this moment, seeing Chaeyoung again after six years, but she didn't imagined it to be like this. Maybe that's the reason why she still haven't absorb that Chaeyoung is here.
Her heart hurts when she saw the latter, but this pain isn't the pain she thought she'd feel. She pictured her self feeling hurt, but the hurt she's been feeling right now isn't caused by the reason she thought it would be. Mina's hurtung because of how Chaeyoung showed herself.
Would it be better if she saw Chaeyoung happy or in a much better state? She doesn't know. Hell, she doesn't even know what's going on.
