Mina was still out at the grocery store with Lisa. The latter helped her get the things Jihyo listed for her to buy.
"Four box of banana milk? Really?" Lisa asked surprised, looking at Mina's notepad on her phone. "Don't you think that's a lot?"
"No, I don't think so." Mina laughed, "They're obsessed with it."
"How about you?"
"I like strawberry milk better." Mina answered smiling, she likes it because that's Chaeyoung's favorite. She used to not like strawberry, but she dated someone who's really into it so she grew to like them as well.
"Then we better get atleast a box of strawberry milk, right?" Lisa smiled. She then ran like a kid on when she saw the fridge where the drinks are. "Here!" she exclaimed holding up ghe strawberry milk.
"Did Rosie went back to Australia?" Mina asked while putting their groceries on the counter.
"Yeah. I visited her there once." Lisa responded, "I went with Jisoo unnie. You still remember her, right? She's our senior."
"Ofcourse I remember." Mina laughed. "My memory of her and Nayeon drunk is still vivid in my head."
"Right! That time!" Lisa laughed, "That's their first time trying alcohol. Jeongyeon have to carry Nayeon right? And Jisoo unnie cried because she don't have anyone to carry her."
Their time together was spent reminiscing their high school days and their time together in the cheering squad. They talked about it until they were able to pay for their groceries.
" I had a lot of fun, Mina." Lisa said after they walked out the store. "We should get coffee some other time."
"I would love that." Mina smiled.
Lisa then waved her goodbye but Mina stopped her.
"Why don't you join us to our dinner?" Mina suggested, "I'm sure the girls wouldn't mind and be happy if you go."
"Are you sure?" Lisa asked excitedly, "Are you sure because if you are, I will really accept your invite. I'd love to congratulate the newly weds in person."
"Yes, I'm sure Lisa." Mina laughed, "We would need some help with the cooking anyway."
"Yah! You're only inviting me because of my skills in the kitchen?" Lisa pouted, "Fine."
Mina let out a small laugh before pulling Lisa on her arms, "Stop pouting, come on!"
Chaeyoung remained on her spot as she tried to steady her breathing and keep her thoughts away. When she saw a familiar face.
"Jeong." She called quietly. Chaeyoung then wasted no time. She ran towards the girl and hug her.
"Hey kid, what happened?" Jeongyeon asked concerned, patting Chaeyoung's back gently. "It's okay. I'm here."
Jeongyeon continued brushing Chaeyoung's back and hair while she feels her shirt getting damp by the latter's tears. When she felt Chaeyoung's body calmed down, she carefully pulled away and wiped her teas as her heart breaks for the shorter girl. Jeongyeon hates seeing Chaeyoung cry. But she knows that's what the latter needed. She needed to cry.
"What happen, Chaeng?" She asked lidting Chaeyoung's chin. "You can tell me anything."
"M-my dad.." Chaeyoung sobbed, "He's dead, unnie. He's gone."
Jeongyeon don't have anything to say. It's like for a moment she was lost for words. She can't think of anything that would make Chaeyoung feel better. Instead, she pulled the younger girl back into her arms tightly and let Chaeyoung cry once more.
"My dad's gone." Chaeyoung cried, "I-I want to see my dad, unnie."
Jeongyeon let Chaeyoung compose herself before pulling away from the latter. "Then let's see him."
Chaeyoung, with her clouded eyes, nodded. The taller girl wiped Chaeyoung's tears once again and gave her a warm smile. "We will meet him, okay?" She added. "Now, let's go."
During the ride, Chaeyoung requested for the car window to be rolled down and that's what Jeongyeon did. They were engulfed with silence until Jeongyeon decoded to break it.
"D-did you just found out about it, Chaeng?" she asked, not looking at the girl.
"N-No, unnie." Chaeyoung answered, looking outside the car window. "I've known this since the day after the fire. I just.. I just realized it's true when I was reminded about it during my therapy."
"I've known about it since then." Chaeyoung added, looking at Jeongyeon. "But all those times.. I- I keep denying it to myself. Hoping it wasn't real and that's just a bad dream. Saying it awhile back, makes it so real."
"Are you okay with your therapist?" Jeongyeon asked concerned, "If not we can ask Sana to find you a new one."
"No. No unnie. I.." Chaeyoung stopped, looking down. "I feel comfortable with her. She don't push me to talk.. I'm not sure how she makes me talk without realising it."
Jeongyeon feels happy to know the younger girl is comfortable with her therapist. But it also makes her sad that Chaeyoung doesn't feel like that with her. That Chaeyoung doesn't feel as comfortable as she feels towards Seulgi to Jeongyeon.
"Unnie?" Chaeyoung called the girl drowning from her thoughts.
"Hmm?" Jeongyeon hummed, pushing away her sadness. "What is it, Chaeng?"
"I'm sorry, unnie." Chaeyoung looked down with tears threatening to fall. "I'm sorry I pushed you away. And I'm sorry I can't tell you why."
Chaeyoung knows what she did to her friends. She knows she pushed them all away. But she's not lying when she said she don't know why. She just can't remember the reason. And she hates herself for that.
Jeongyeon kept quiet as she tries to control herself from crying.
"Seulgi.. She suggested that I may be experiencing some type of amnesia.." Chaeyoung said, biting her lower lip. "Dissociative amnesia. I've lost some memories about events that stressful or t-traumatic for me. So I don't know why I pushed you away, unnie.. I'm sorry."
When Chaeyoung started to cry, Jeongyeon can't help but pull over the car. The older girl pulled Chaeyoung in a hug and the latter let her. Unlike the first time Jeongyeon tried to comfort her, Chaeyoung didn't flinched. Her body didn't stiffened. The younger girl let her body collapsed on her unnie.
"It's okay, Chaeng." Jeongyeon assured, carresing the younger one's back. "It's okay. Don't apologize."
"I'm sorry unnie." Chaeyoung kept on apologising. "I promise, I'll tell it to you once I remember. I'll do my best to remember them even how hard it may be. I promise."
Jeongyeon kissed Chaeyoung's crown before pulling away gently from the hug. "Hey kid, remember I'll always be here for you, okay? Unnie will always be here for you. You take all the time that you need to get better. I will stay by your side. Okay?"
Chaeyoung had no other words to say than thank you even though that word can't do what she's feeling any justice. It can't even come close to how thankful she is for the girl holding her tightly.
This right here, just added to the reasons why she wants to get better.
