Mina entered her house and almost got startled when Dahyun greeted her, holding a bowl of popcorn.
"Hi." Dahyun greeted.
"You startled me." Mina exclaimed, holding her chest. "Sorry I came home late."
"It's okay. We had a lot of fun." Dahyun responded quietly. She then lead Mina on the living room where Chaeyoung and Tzuyu are sleeping on each side of the couch.
Unexpectedly, the house is not a mess and everything seemed to be all in place.
"Clean right?" Dahyun smirked, "Jeong came in a while back. She cleaned up."
"That makes more sense." Mina let out a small laugh. Ofcourse, it's Jeongyeon.
"Yah! We can clean up." Dahyun protested, "Can we sleep here, Mina-ya? You know how a heavy sleeper Tzuyu is."
"Yeah. You can use the spare room." Mina smiled, she don't want to send the two home anyway considering how late it is. "Did you guys had your dinner already?"
"Yep. We ordered pizza and chicken." Dahyun responded, following Mina in the spare room. "I can take care of this, you seem tired."
"Are you sure?"
"Yup." Dahyun said, sounding so certain. "We left some food for you on the table. You should eat while I'm fixing the bed."
Mina gave the shorter girl a thankful nod and went to the dining area. It's an exhausting day for her. A heavy one. She had to clear her head in the park and didn't notice the time. She's just not sure how she can absorb everything she heard from Somi.
She have been thinking about it, and it didn't make any sense to her. Chaeyoung's father is a good one. She never laid hands on Chaeyoung as far as she know. There's no way the scars the latter have was caused by his father. He was the most thoughtful person she had ever known, something Chaeyoung got from him. She took care of the latter as his own child. Most importantly, he loved Chaeyoung. And the latter loves her a lot.
Mina remembers how Chaeyoung's father reacted when they told him they were together. He supported them. He accpeted them even faster than Mina's parents. His like a second father to Mina. And she can't just think of him the way Somi did. She don't know how to accept it.
"All done." Dahyun's voice appeared from behind. "I'll wake them up."
"I'll help you." Mina responded, getting up.
While walking to the living area, Dahyun stopped Mina. "Are you okay, Mina?" she asked, worried.
Truth is, Mina doesn't know. She don't know what to feel anymore. But she lied, "Yeah. Just tired."
Dahyun knows she's lying. That's what happen when you've been friends with each other for a long time. But she knows Mina doesn't like sharing what she feels. She knows the latter would only tell them what she's feeling after she get through that completely so instead of pushing Mina to talk, Dahyun just smiled at her and nod.
"Tzuyu-ah." Dahyun called quietly, "Come on, wake up. You know we can't carry you."
While Dahyun is busy waking Tzuyu up, Mina froze on her spot as she looks at Chaeyoung who is still asleep. The latter's short haircut made it easier for Mina to see the long scar she have on her neck. Suddenly, she felt her insides twitch.
She had no one. Chaeyoung went through that alone. I let her go through that alone. Mina's guilt is eating her completely. She wish she was there to protect Chaeyoung. If only she stayed by her side. If only she didn't make it about herself and stayed.. Maybe then Chaeyoung didn't have to be strong for herself. Maybe then Chaeyoung won't be alone. Maybe then none of this happened.
Tzuyu slowly opened her eyes and accidentally woke up Chaeyoung by brushing her own eyes.
"Minari?" Chaeyoung called softly, bringing Mina snapped out her thoughts.
Mina looked up to stop her tears from falling before returning her gaze to Chaeyoung. "Hey. Come on. Let's get you to bed." she smiled, offering her hand to the shorter girl.
Chaeyoung nodded happily, reaching Mina's hand to help her get up. "Good night, Tzuyu-ah, Dahyunie."
"Goodnight Chaengie." Dahyun said, helping Tzuyu get up.
Mina made sure Dahyun and Tzuyu are in their room before closing their door behind. When she returned to her room, Chaeyoung is sitting on the couch, waiting for her.
"I'll just clean myself up." Mina informed, "You can go back to sleep."
Chaeyoung just nodded and Mina made her way to the bathroom as fast as she can. She don't know if she can deal with the truth she got today. Sadness and guilt are overwhelming her.
She let the warm droplets of water from the shower cover her body. It's as hot as the tears falling uncontrollably off her face. Whenever she closes her eyes, all she see is Chaeyoung getting beat up. She hugs herself to steady her body while unconsciously digging her nails on her skin, thinking Chaeyoung didn't deserve that. Nothing she had ever done makes her deserving for that. And Mina.. She wasn't there. She wasn't able to see that Chaeyoung needed her help. She let Chaeyoung go. Mina was not there when Chaeyoung needed her the most.
When she got out of the shower, she's expecting Chaeyoung to be sleeping soundly on her bed. To her surprise, the latter is still waiting for her. Reading her favorite book, Chaeyoung waited for Mina.
The taller girl looked at the girl sitting on her bed with her bloodshot and puffy eyes. It's impossible for Chaeyoung not to notice she cried.
For normal people, they might ask questions such as are you okay? or did you cry? But Chaeyoung knows Mina better than she knows herself so she acted as if she didn't see anything. She ignored it and waited until Mina sits beside her.
Mina's body moved for her. The last thing she remembered was Chaeyoung's soft eyes looking into her, and her inviting arms waiting for her to embrace.
And she did. She burried her head on Chaeyoung's chest as the tears she's been holding ever since she got out of her bathroom fall terribly and Chaeyoung let her.
The latter caressed her back, not to calm Mina down but the opposite. She wants Mina to let go and cry the tears she's been holding back. Chaeyoung held the girl as tight as her body allows.
This is what Mina has been needing since leaving the bar Somi and her met. Through Chaeyoung's embrace, she finds calm and peace. Through Chaeyoung's hold, she feels safe. Safe to be herself.
She's not as strong she wants anybody else to think. Mina only feels brave when she thinks of Chaeyoung. Being on the latter's embrace fels like coming home after a tiring day, it's like finally letting a heavy armor down.
Chaeyoung is who Mina needed.
