Seventeen

Elena and Bonnie teased me for a while until Caroline showed up. She has takeout food with her so we all forgive her for being late.

"I'm sorry if you want to keep the ugly ass necklace. Keep it. It's yours." Caroline tells Bonnie with a fake smile.

"Will you hate me if I said that I threw it away?" Bonnie asks her.

"You threw it away?!" Caroline demands harshly. Elena and I both start placing cups and plates on the table, trying to stay out of their argument.

"I know, it sounds crazy. Except the necklace was giving me nightmares and I had to get rid of it." Bonnie tells her apologetically.

"You could've given it back to me!"

"So you can just give it back to Damon?" I ask cutting into their argument.

Caroline rolls her eyes. "Screw Damon." She says giving a dismissive wave. "Are we doing manicures or what?"

"Hell yeah we are." I tell Caroline.

"My kits in my bag." Bonnie tells Caroline. Caroline walks over to Bonnie's bag and begins rummaging through it.

"So Elena, how long do you think this fight with Stefan will last?" Caroline asks while digging through Bonnie's bag.

Elena lets out an annoyed sigh. "I dunno, Caroline." I look over at Elena and give her sad eyes. "But we should talk about this date that Ellie is going." She says giving me a teasing smile.

"What? Ellie are you going on a date with someone?" Caroline asks turning to look at me.

I can feel my cheeks burning. "Today when I was walking home from school, Tyler Lockwood asked me out." I explain to her shyly.

Caroline's facial expression is horrifying. Her face is stern with a hint of confusion and concern.

"In my defense, I really didn't know that he still liked me. I figured that once the school year started he stopped liking me. I guess I was wrong..." I trail off.

"I'm confused..." Caroline tells me. Bonnie and Elena are both cackling. They're still getting a kick out of my situation.

Bonnie and Elena both take turns telling my tragic story. While they tell Caroline one thought remains on my mind...

What am I going to do? I can't go on a date with Tyler. Except I don't understand my feelings for Damon yet. I don't know if I like him or if I don't. At this moment I hate his guts. He killed Lexi.

But at the same...he's so hot! Those god damn icy blue eyes. And his hands...GOD HIS HANDS.

Caroline's laughter pulls me out of my trance. The three of them are all practically rolling on the floor in laughter.

"Haha...very funny!" I say jokingly. I look over at Caroline as she quickly stops laughing.

"Bonnie why are you such a liar?" She says accusingly.

"What?" Bonnie and I say at the same time.

"Caroline!" Elena scolds.

I stare at Caroline, who's holding Bonnie's necklace. She said she threw it away, but I guess she didn't. I look over and see Elena and Bonnie's shocked faces.

"I didn't lie, Caroline. I swear!" Bonnie says starting to freak out.

"It's true, Caroline! I saw her throw it away." Elena chimes in, defending Bonnie.

"Then explain this!" Caroline commands. She puts the necklace on the kitchen island for everybody to see it.

"Emily." I whisper under my breath. It's the only logical answer. If Bonnie is being haunted by this necklace, then that means that she can't just get rid of it.
