I open the door to my house and step inside. Elena runs down the stairs and nearly tackles me to the ground.

"Ellie!" She pulls me into a tight hug. "Are you okay?"

"Yeah, Elena, I'm fine." I say hugging her back. She pulls me away and takes something from out of her pocket. It looks like a compass.

"Take this." She says handing the compass to me. "It detects vampires. Stefan gave it to me, but I think you need it more than me."

"Thanks." I tell her accepting the compass.

Jenna walks down the stairs and I smile at her outfit. She's dressed for our decade dance that's tonight, the theme is the fifties.

"So you're going to the dance?" I ask her with a approving smile.

"Alaric asked me to help chaperone." Jenna says giving us a twirl.

"You look beautiful!" I exclaim. And she truly does. She'll fit right in at the dance, nobody will even notice that she's actually my aunt. They'll think she's just another high school student.

I look over at Elena who looks like she's about to explode. Uh oh...

"Why didn't you tell us?" Elena demands. She turns around to face Jenna, who's smile has faded.

"Your mom was going to do it. I didn't think that I would have to." Jenna tells us with guilt in her voice.

"If our mom was here right now, and I asked, she would tell us the truth!" Elena argues.

Everyone's silent for a moment. Elena's words still ring in our ears. Elena and I watch as Jenna takes a deep breath before talking. "One night your dad was about to leave the office when a girl showed up. She was sixteen, a runaway, and about to give birth to twins. He delivered her babies and gave her a place to stay. A few days later she just disappeared." She pauses and takes another deep breath. "And there you both were. Your parents were trying so hard to have a baby...but it just wasn't happening. And Miranda always wanted to be a mom."

"So why are our parents names on our birth certificate?" I ask her.

"Remember your dad was a doctor. He easily took care of it." She tells us. "They wanted to keep you two so they told as little people as possible. If anybody wanted proof they would have documentation."

"What else do you know about her?" I ask.

"Just her name." Jenna replies.

"What is it?" Elena and I say simultaneously.

"Isobel."

I was not prepared for tonight's dance. I would've had time to get a better outfit if a psychopathic vampire wasn't hunting me down. I decided to put on a yellow and black dress with a black side hat. It's sorta fifties themed. Maybe...I honestly don't care.

I look at myself in my full body mirror. Double checking to make sure there are no mistakes with my outfit, which of course there are none.

I suddenly hear a twitching noise coming from my bed. I turn around and raise an eyebrow at the compass on my bed that's twitching uncontrollably.

"Elena!" I yell out. She pokes her head into my room. "Elena, the compass!" Her eyes dart to the compass that's still twitching. She quickly pulls out her phone and begins dialing somebody's number.

"I'll go call Stefan!" Elena exclaims.

The doorbell rings and I look out the window to see who it is. I let out a sigh of relief when I see that it's Stefan.
