Capri
I grab his hand and pull him toward a group of people that had gathered for a beach party up ahead. Sounds of music can be heard reverberating against the splash of the waves.
"Come on, pookie bear. I want to dance." He frowns a little but follows my lead.
There were probably close to a hundred people there. A DJ was playing on a small stage in one corner. And on the other, was the bar. In the middle of the crowd, someone had set up a bonfire. It wasn't very big but enough to emanate some heat and create an interesting play of light and shadow to those around it.
We both dance and drink. I wanted to try and get back that feeling I had before he grilled me about the party, the drinks did help a bit.
I swayed to the rhythm of the music. His warm body moving against mine, gave me a feeling of comfort. I feel like I could stay like this and this is good enough for me. I can just disappear, blending into the beach crowd, no more gunmen looking for me. No more running. Even my nightmares might decide to stop their nightly visits.
As the night progressed, the crowd grew larger, doubling its original size. The place was getting too congested for me so I led Lorenzo away to find someplace quiet.
We walked away from the party and came across some lounge chairs. It probably belonged to a hotel nearby. Plopping our asses down for a break, we enjoyed some quiet time while stargazing at the clear night sky.
He had a bottle of wine which I had no idea where he got it from. He chugged it straight from the bottle and offered it to me. I took a sip and tasted the bitter-sweet alcohol. We sat there for a while, in comfortable silence, just savoring the cool breeze and each other's company.
"Shouldn't we get back, it's getting late" I finally said.
"Nah, we're both too drunk to drive" his voice slurred a little.
"What happened to the guards?" I didn't care much about them at this point. My senses were at peace. It was just something unconscious that my brain needed information on.
"I sent them home a while back." He took another sip and hand me the bottle. "Don't worry mi amore. I'll protect you from the big bad men."
"You and what army?" I scoffed.
"Don't need one. I'm a one man army." He joked. "I've already saved your life twice. That should count for something."
Twice. Oh gawd, he's talking about yesterday. My throat feels parched as I recollect the second time Lorenzo came to my aid.
I sip the wine. It was doing its job, lowering my guard. At that moment, I couldn't care less about the people who are after me. I just want to stay there, on that lounge chair, listening to the gentle waves while enjoying this delicious wine. I sigh, feeling in harmony with the universe.
