Capri
My current active project for Don Moretti is basically an upgrade for all their security measures. Pretty standard stuff. Which leaves me ample time to pursue my own project. Find out who is after me.
So far, the attack at the party confirmed my suspicion that the Colonel had been compromised. The Colonel had been my go-to guy for extra muscle. We've worked together for the past five years. He ran a security company that provided the service of ex-militia men. AKA guns for hire. While I find no evidence that the Colonel was directly involved, there was a lot of it that showed his men had received funds elsewhere. This was surprising since the Colonel has a very strict hiring process. Where did it all go wrong, I wondered.
Lauren had informed me of the many requests the Colonel had made to get in touch with me. All of which I've ignored. I have no interest in talking to him. I already know what he wants to say and it won't be anything newsworthy.
My tummy starts to rumble and I realized it is now way past three in the afternoon. I have been up since yesterday, engrossed with work and I'm pretty sure I've gone without food for more than 12 hours.
I peek outside my door and see the tray of food the maid had left for me. Lorenzo had made sure they sent up a tray of food for every meal. Unfortunately, I haven't been diligent when it comes to eating whatever dish that arrives. And I'm sure the kitchen staff was fully aware of that. It's just that sometimes I would get caught up with work and often forget to eat.
I picked up the tray and brought it inside. Pasta bolognese. I reheat it in the microwave, another machine provided by Lauren. She knows me too well.
I eat my pasta in front of my computer. My eyes focus on the screen while my hands and mouth move automatically, processing the food. It tasted good but what's on screen was better.
"Ehem" the sound startled me and I turned to see Lorenzo standing two feet away. His arms crossed at his chest, looking a bit impatient. He must have been standing there for a while. Dressed in a black suit, black tie, and white shirt. He looks every bit like the man in black.
"What do you want?" my eyes darted back to the screen.
"I'm here to invite you to dinner-"
"No, thank you" I quickly cut him off. I know the Morettis normally have their meals together at the dining hall, but I am not here to make friends. I am here to work and that is what I'm going to do.
"Capri."
"Uh huh?" I grab a tissue and proceed to wipe some of the red sauce smudges around my lips while I continue to ignore him. My eyes never left the screen.
"You've been here for a month, and you've barely left this room. Someone will start to wonder why my girlfriend is ghosting me"
"Just... tell them I'm on a diet. Girls do that" With my pasta all eaten, I walk out and leave the tray of empty plates outside my door. I can feel Lorenzo's eyes following my every step. My answer must have bothered him but then again, I don't care.
