BEEP!

BEEP!

BEEP!

What the hell is that noise? It's been going on forever. Isn't someone going to turn it off? I scowled and squeezed my eyes hard, feeling my temper rising at the disruption. I never use an alarm clock so this must be Capri's.

I moaned her name, hoping that'd make her shut it off. My hands wandered beside me to find her warm body so that I could get her to wake up. Instead, all I find are cold sheets and definitely no Capri.

"Boss? You awake?"

Why the hell is Luca in my room? And where is Capri?

I tried to open my eyes but the bright sun streaming from the window immediately made me flinch.

How long was I asleep?

"What time is it?" I croaked. The words came out broken and I realized how parched my throat felt.

I tried to get up but it was like my body had gone through a meat grinder and was all stiff and sore from it. Luca helped me up and put some extra pillows behind me so I could sit up. He then gave me some water and I immediately felt so much better.

I finally took stock of where I am and realized that I'm not in my room. The white wall, the smell of sanitizers, my unfamiliar blue garment as well as the machine beeping next to me made it obvious that I'm currently lying in a hospital bed.

"What happened?" I rested my head back, too drained to do anything much.

"You were shot. You lost a lot of blood. The bullet got really close to your heart. The doctor had to perform surgery for hours. It's a miracle you're already awake. Do you remember anything?" Luca explained.

I then saw Tony sprawled out uncomfortably on a chair behind Luca, fast asleep with drool running down his chin.

"The ball." He nodded. "Where's Capri? Is she okay?"

He scoffed. Clearly bitter about something. "Your little girlfriend never even showed up at the hospital. Last I saw her was at the ball."

Something's wrong. I can feel it. Every word that Luca says just sounds off to me. Capri won't do that to me. When she got hurt, I barely left her side. And I'm pretty sure she would have done the same for me.

Tony gasps and then cough a bit before he rolls out of his chair and lands butt first on the floor.

"Heyy, Enzo. How you feelin'?" He said slowly as if talking to a child while he slowly got back on his feet. Rubbing his droopy eyes with his hands as he does so.

"I'm fine." I snap at him, feeling a bit annoyed that Capri's not by my side. "Did you call her?" I said as I turned back to Luca.

"I called her. I called Alex. I even called Lauren. It all went straight to voicemail."
