Capri
Darkness.
Pitch black.
Void of any source of light.
I feel something brush against me. Something small and flimsy. Thin edge. Bendable. Lots of it.
I take a step forward and more of these slim but firm things sweep past my body.
I listened. Trying to catch any sound around me. My eyes close as I do my best to concentrate.
I can hear in the distance, the wind whistling to an unknown tune. Crickets, I think. Playing their concerto, continuously. A howl and a hoot, barely audible to my ears.
I take a deep breath and the scent of earthy freshness that can only come from nature hits me.
For a moment, I let the calm sensation console me. But my short lived soothing existence ended as fear gripped my heart. My eyes, wide open as I scan my surroundings and try to look for him.
I know he's out there. Somewhere.
I know I need to move. Find safety, away from here.
I close my eyes again. I can't see him, it's too dark, but I might be able to hear him.
The brittle sound of a twig breaking in the distance. The crunch of dry leaves coming from my north. I slowly take a step backward. My breath hitches as I feel myself shrinking.
Not wanting to dwell on the what ifs, I turn around and run as fast as possible. I can feel the nips and cuts on my skin as I rush past the leaves and twigs blindly, but that is nothing compared to what is possible if I am ever captured.
Don't stop. I tell myself as I feel the burn from my sprint. My breath ragged as my chest beat faster and faster.
I can no longer hear the music that the forest had played earlier. Only the sound of my racing heart occupies my senses.
I can't let him catch me. Not again. Never again.
I sense the evil coming for me. Taunting me to cower in fear but I refuse to submit. As long as I keep moving, he won't catch me. I will be safe. I will find sanctuary.

My body suddenly jerks up. My mind looks around me in a daze, as I try hard to focus on my surroundings. I can feel my body drenched in sweat. I took a deep breath in and out as I realized what just happened. It was just a dream. I had that dream again.
My eyes scanned my surrounding. It's dark, but I'm not back in that dark woods. I'm at the Moretti's safe house. I'm safe. There's nothing to be afraid of.
I drag myself out of bed and change into a dry t-shirt. I check the clock on the wall, it's just after one. I should try and get back to sleep.
It's been almost a week since I tried to walk to the town. Since I took a stroll through the woods. I thought it would be safe. I thought I would be fine. It was daylight and all I had to do was keep to the road.
