I wake from another confusing nightmare without opening my eyes. My neck aches and I feel the need to stretch out my legs. My shoulder is in an awkward position, I'm cold, and my head is upside down.

"She doesn't look very comfortable," Nicolae says, sounding uncertain.

"I'm not going to wake her," Illusion states.

"She's so nice and quiet!" Century groans in complaint.

"Here," Eventide starts. I feel myself being shifted into a different position, my head resting against the window and my legs to the side of the seat. "Now she should be comfortable as well as more likely to stay asleep."

"Infinity said you couldn't kill her; he never said you had to be nice," Illusion reminds.

"If you were paying attention at all you would have realized she only responds positively to a hospitable approach. To add to my motives, if we are all unkind, she might attempt suicide. As Infinity said so clearly, 'A dead hostage is no hostage, and a lot of hostility.'" Eventide reasons logically.

We hit a huge bump or pot hole, knocking my forehead against the window painfully. I curl up in silent anguish, clutching my head.

"Ouch," Illusion hisses.

"She's alive, right Innie?" Nicolae asks worriedly.

"Why are you asking Innie?" I grit out through a clenched jaw.

"Are you okay?" Century asks before I get my answer. Narrowing my eyes at him in suspicion, I nod.

"We're in New York City." Infinity takes one hand off the steering wheel, glancing back at us. I straighten up and look out at the bright lights immediately.

"Can we stop for food somewhere? I'm starving. And I have to pee. And I'm thirsty. Being thirsty and having to pee is not a good combination of feelings," I babble, never taking my eyes off the beautiful scenery.

"Thirsty? Are you sure you want to go hunting in such a big city? This place is nicknamed 'the city that never sleeps.' There might be a lot of witnesses," Century worries. I steal an odd look at him.

Since when is he so nice?

"Not that type of thirsty. I mean water or something of the sort. Do I look like I have fangs to you?"

"But you said you're part Shadow!" Century exclaims.

"I am. Sort of," I assure, pressing my face to the glass again.

"Whatever. We're about ten minutes from home, I'm sure you can wait a bit until then?" Illusion leans forward to ask.

"Yeah, I guess," I mumble, slumping in my seat. I want to go out and see the city. Not just admire it from behind glass.

"Besides, you'll get to see plenty of the city tomorrow when it's safe to be walking around," Illusion smiles at me. Despite my excitement, I catch something a bit off.

"What do you mean, safe?" I turn to him, worried. Is NYC really that dangerous? They're Vampires for crying out loud!

"Lots of Werewolves around. They're a new breed, and already have a large population. I swear those wolves are like bunnies," Century glances out the window fearfully.

"What type of Werewolves?"

"They fully shift to wolves, and are Catholically blessed. Each of them are personally baptized by their Council of Elders in both human and wolf form. As soon as this happens, these wolves get a shining silver or white coat and golden eyes." Nicolae explains, now sounding more mature than his looks.
