Staring at my shaking hands, I try to wrap my head around the fact that I drank blood from a human. Why? I'm still human. Why did I...I don't even remember much from when it happened. All I remember is the shock, and the knowledge that I took a life. Century said that Haven is a sorceress, not a human, but it's all the same. I'm just like any other Vampire. I bring death with me.

Someone knocks on the door. Turning my head, I observe that fact, but do nothing about it. Nothing matters anymore. Infinity enters with a bottle of high SPF sunscreen, tossing it to me. The plastic bottle hits my head. I realize this dully.

"Put it on," he says shortly, leaving just as quickly as he came. I turn my attention to my predicament. I can't leave the chamber that I had woken up in. The sun will apparently burn me to ashes if I try. At least that's what Eventide and Century say. They left though, Century with a bloody towel over his head and another around his shoulders to hide his skin from the UV rays. I'm not allowed to leave also because I could attack anybody on the street.

I am still thirsty...

I'm a Shadow though, not one of them. Not a Classic either, nor a Reptilian, or any other type. I have the lineage of a Blue Blood, so I might be like them. Shadows don't like the light because it hurts their eyes, and they get sunburn if they stay out in the sun for too long, but that's like any pale person that thrives in the dark. Blue Bloods aren't affected by the sun at all. So why would I burn?

I push the sunscreen away from me. If I'm reduced to ashes in sunlight, so what? If not, who cares?

Maybe Primal State is my Shadow state of being, and whatever happened after that is my Blue Blood side awakening? I wish April was here to explain.

"You called?" A familiar voice inquires. My sight goes to a healthy, fully alive April. Instead of backing up in fear, or jumping up in shock, my face remains nuetral, and I screech at the top of my lungs. I don't understand why, because I'm not  scared, or shocked, or anything. My first instinct is just to scream. "Jeez, didn't Gale tell you about Soul Suckers? What's with that scream? You'd think after drinking blood someone would be more open to the paranormal."

I don't respond.

"You're the one who 'wished I was here to explain'!" She exclaims.

"How did you know that?" I ask blankly.

"You're my sister, you're a Vampire, I'm a ghost. It shouldn't be that difficult to figure out," she retorts.

Again, I don't respond.

"Anyway, your Primal State goes into action when you are put in a threatening situation and calls to the Shadow Vampire residing somewhere in you. This is because of your past. Primal State, for you, is used to get you out of said threatening situation. It's for fleeing. Recently, you haven't been able to flee. This contributed to the creation of what comes after the Primal State, your Murderous State. This state of being calls forth both Blue Blood and Shadow blood and makes you more dangerous than one would've thought possible for you. Because you are actually a pure Blue Blood and the first child of two pure Blue Bloods, you are a Silver-Ringed, one of the most powerful of our breed. Are you still with me?"

"Yeah...I guess. Wouldn't I have a twin though?"

"You're special in more ways than one, Dominic," April says with a smile. I nod, the words going in one ear and out the other. "You're put into this powerful position, and then added to whatever you have in the first place, you have Shadow abilities as well. If Deaths had gone on to evolve, you would've been a prime example of one. However, because all traces of human are forced out of you, whereas in Primal State you still have half of your human side intact, you don't remember anything once you go back to normal. Right now, you're in between. This isn't any particular state. You remember the important things that happened while your human side went away, but not the details. By tomorrow you'll forget all about today, and me, which is why I've graced you with a visit. Can't have you telling Gale his sister is still around. He'd never leave me alone. Anyhow, I'm hungry, so I'll talk to you next time you need some answers. Word of advice, I'd write down anything I'd want to remember from today. But if you write about me you're dead. Bye!"

With that, she disappears. I try to slowly process what she said, and get the gist of what happened. Already the details are fading away. Scrambling to my feet, I look around for a piece of paper and something to write with.

Feeling like I'm dead corpse walking, I trudge through the city streets with a blanket over my shoulders and head because, despite my reasoning, Infinity refused to take any chances with me getting burnt.

I feel the weird stares people direct at me like lazers, making me cringe further, clutching my arms close to me. Each gaze is like a bullet, making me want to die. They're all accusing me of killing her and I can't escape and I'll go to prison for life and they'll find out that I'm a Vampire and a murderer for sure and then I'll be hacked into pieces for science and they'll find-

I stop myself from going on, trying to calm down. No one knows anything. I'm just some sick person walking the streets of New York City with a group of guys standing around me like it's the most normal thing in the world. Maybe everyone will follow us to their place and we'll get arrested for something or another.

Infinity glances back at me, but his face turns away as soon as it had faced me, so I can't read his expression.

"Illusion, we're going ahead," Infinity says shortly, picking up his pace. I hunch my shoulders as I'm left alone with Eventide who - to the best of my memory - hates me at the moment and probably for the rest of his everlasting life.

"You saw Century's physical power," he states after a long stretch of silence. Well, technically there was a lot of background noise but still.

"Physi...?"

"We all have mental and physical powers. Nicolae showed you his physical power?"

"Oh. What about the rest of you?"

"That's for Infinity to decide."

"Of course," I mutter, tugging the blanket further in front of my reddening face as my muscles tense up.

"Why are you- nevermind," Eventide sighs. I glance at him curiously despite my discomfort. He stares straight ahead, his arms stiff at his sides.

Not another word passes between us again as we walk to my prison. Illusion meets us at the door, grabbing my arm and dragging me into the room I was placed in before. Now it has all the embellishments of the toys I had bought.

"You're a hostage, remember that," He says, closing and locking the door from the outside, the doorknob and locks transferred to his side. Shocked from the swift confinement and the harsh words from Illusion, who has been semi-friendly this whole time, I stand there speechless.

After a while, I realize that the light hasn't changed and really observe my isolated chamber. Blackout curtains block the sunlight and a dim lightbulb flickers on a plain lamp. Although everything is fluffy with the toys, the place has a cold feeling to it, like it hasn't been - or shouldn't be - lived in.

I try to amuse myself for a while, but to no avail. When I peek from the curtains and see that the sun has already set, I turn off the lamp, curl up in a corner, and cry myself to sleep from loneliness.
