I turn to see Mackenna being dragged by a furious Infinity, Brennen and Mackay held back by two Vampires each. Pheonix and Gale follow behind them, unconscious and thrown over the shoulders of the buff guy from last night...Antony.
"What did you do to them!?" I scream, pushing my way through the crowd to get to my family. I rip Infinity's hand from aroudn Mackenna's arm and hug her before standing in front of her protectively.
"They trespassed. The guards took them into our custody, then when I realized they were your friends, I decided to allow a reunion," Infinity growls menacingly. Mackay bucks against his guard, his prosthetic leg hidden by the long jeans he's wearing.
"Let them go, Infinity."
"Since when do you give me orders?" He questions. I take a step forward and lower my voice.
"Since I decided to not inform my family of what you did last night."
Infinity backs down, gesturing for the Vampires to let Mackay and Brennen go. They rush to my side at once and initiate a group hug.
"Put the other two in Century and Eventide's den," I hear Infinity order. "They'll be able to recover, and be without interruption when they do finally see her."
I clutch Mackay and Brennen with one arm and Mackenna with the other. I didn't realize before just how much I had missed them. Tears pour down my face.
"You have a bad tendency of getting kidnapped by Vampires," Mackay chokes out, his own voice thick. This makes me only want to cry even more. Mackay is supposed to always be positive all the time.
"You really need to stop this," Brennen adds.
"It's not good for anyone," Mackenna finishes.
Laughing, I pull away from them. I wipe my tears and ask, "What are you guys doing here?"
"Hey, I'm a girl!" Mackenna reminds. I roll my eyes.
"Of course you are Mackenna."
"Let's go to where Pheonix and Gale are before beginning our explanation," Brennen says. I nod and lead them to where Century and Eventide's room is. Their nephew sits over Pheonix with a concentrated look on his face. Bay sits on the couch, watching her child.
"Bay!" Mackay exclaims. She smiles tiredly at us, but makes no attempt to respond. Suddenly, Pheonix convulses, sitting up with a great deal of effort. The little boy goes to sit by Gale.
"Kid, I'm not injured, just pretending to see how much information I could get," Gale states, sitting up himself.
Bay takes her child and leaves us in the room by ourselves.
"Explain?" I prompt.
"Our parents want the marriage to happen now. You'd be married to Gale," Pheonix states. "I made a deal with Illusion to take you somewhere you wouldn't be found at my signal because I didn't want that to happen. The signal was me saying we couldn't come to rescue you. My father found out an agreed to let it slide if I retrieved you once and for all."
I back away. "I'm not getting married. I can't. I'm only sixteen! And Gale's like, twenty!"
"I know. We came to say goodbye," Pheonix informs. I look at the faces around me. Just a couple months ago, I thought they would be my family forever. Now they're telling me this will probably be the last time they'll see me.
"If you don't take me back, what will happen to you?" I demand.
"Execution. Then two new children will have to be born, each with a different set of parents. There's a new system now," Gale says.
