Slam! Ouch!

Not again. Hitting the phone doesn't even work, it just hurts my hand. Groaning, I got out of bed and trudged down the hallway to the bathroom. Finishing my routine, I walked to the kitchen a bit more awake and refreshed.

I raised my eyebrows in surprise when I saw mom awake and cooking breakfast. Eggs and bacon. Yay! Not.

"Good morning, darling daughter!" she smiled widely at me. I opened and closed my mouth a few times but settled on a confused huff. She chuckled softly and I sat down.

"Is something wrong?" I asked after she started humming. Really, what was going on! "Did something happen?"

"What I can't be happy without something happening?" she laughed, "But yes, I got a promotion. I'll have to get up earlier and stay longer but I get better pay and benefits."

"That's great, mum! Not that you'll be working more but because you got promoted." I quickly cleared up but she laughed it off and gave me a plate of food.

"Thanks!" I said overly cheery while grabbing the salt and pepper. She watched me like I was an alien as I basically drowned my eggs in pepper.

"That's enough." she yanked the grinder out of my hands and replaced it with a fork.

"Hey!"

"You wouldn't of eaten it if you put to much on." she defended with a pointed look. I knew she was right so I gave up and ate, avoiding the bacon. When I was done I rinsed then put my plate beside the sink before running into my room to get ready for school.

Grabbing some slightly baggy blue jeans, a over sized plain black t-shirt and a black and gray flannel to tie around my waist and throwing it on. I messed around with my hair for a bit but decided to just brush it and leave it out in the end. Realising the time, I rushed about to pack my bag and put on my shoes. Then hurried out the door yelling 'bye' to no one in particular.

School started in 15 minutes and it was a 10 minute walk but I usually liked being early. It's fine though. I won't miss anything. Calming down because I knew panicking was pointless, I just listened to my surroundings. The birds, leaves, occasionally a rumble of a car. Soon I got to school and placed my bag in its nook before walking into the playground.

Kids were everywhere, talking and playing. There was only five minutes until the bell rang so I just sat on a bench and waited, enjoying the sun while I could. My thoughts wondered to Tyler, there were only two year six classes, one was just year sixes the other was composite meaning it had years five and six together. I was in the just sixes but I didn't know if Tyler was.

The bell finally rung and I made my way to class. Mrs. Jonas was already there and writing on the board while students spilled in. I sat at the back corner furthest from the door like usual. People sat with their friends and thankfully avoided me although there was only one seat separating me from this blond girl. I don't bother learning names.

Tyler didn't come in when Mrs. Jonas started babbling about square roots so I assumed he was in the other class. Most kids were half listening but some were chatting quietly or passing notes. Our teacher noticed half way through the lesson after a boy laughed at what his friend wrote.

"Care to share, Mathew?" she challenged. His eyes widened and some kids snickered. Mathew slowly shook his head but handed over the note when Mrs. Jonas held her hand out. "I'd like to talk to you and Chris after class. Please resist the urge to keep distracting yourselves and others or I will have to seperate you two." she basically demanded.
