Reader's side

"Wreny."

"What?" you ask quietly, resting your cheek on his chest.

You are still perplexed by the happenings of this day, but somehow he is still the only safe place left to return to.

Your Devil Fruit never lied before, and you believe in the bond you felt after seeing his heart.

It stayed beautiful and bright despite all his scars, and you want to see it whole again. Maybe because over your will, it heals you too.

"I want to tell you about Cora-san," he whispers. His voice is quavering slightly, which makes your heart clench.

You stay silent for some time before you answer, choosing your words carefully. Shiro mentioned a man named Corazon.

He must be the light behind the dark walls.

"You don't have to if you don't want it."

Law shivers and tightens his hug around you for a moment. His golden eyes gleam in a way that tells you everything.

You sit back on his lap and kiss him gently, with as much care as you can show. The bright gaze runs over your features after you let him go.

When you notice how hurt he is, you rather press your forehead against his neck so he doesn't see your face.

But even if his breath calms from it, the man touches your cheek and makes you look up again. He doesn't explain it, but you understand.

He doesn't mind if you see his tears.

For Law, being vulnerable in front of another must be harder than anything.

Trafalgar can't look into your eyes, but he holds you close as he answers, running his long fingers through your hair.

He barely touches you, but it carries affection and trust like nothing you have felt before.

It's a silent blessing and a promise, both carved into your mind in a dead language too beautiful and subtle to be spoken.

"I want to. Only my crew knows about him, but you have the right," he sighs, and his eyelids move heavily to shadow the waterdrops before they escape. "You need to know what you gave back to me. You need to know why-"

He stops, and you tense up when you see his lower lip trembling. His hand drops and his glowing gaze meets yours.

The deep and hoarse voice turns tender and quiet.

"Why I want to protect you, even if you can't trust me after today."

You take his hand and pull it to your lips when you feel how cold it is.

"I said I forgave you."

"Forgiveness is not naivety, Wreny," he whispers. "We both know it. You may have trusted me at first, but I lost it. I will wait as long as you need to prove myself worthy of it again."

You press your lips together and lay your head back on his chest to hide your face.

You can't express yourself as he does, and can't show it either, only hope that he feels.

When he speaks again, his breath brushes your hair, warming up your skin while he starts stroking your waist.

"Cora-san saved my life from the illness that took my family," says Law, his voice steady and emotionless.

It hurts you to hear how he hides again, so you gather your bravery and look at him again, and his tears begin to flow.

You hold his hand and wonder how can a man like him find an anchor to reality in someone like you.
