The pirate gasps for air when he hears you, then leans back, a dark shadow running over his features.

Your heart clenches when he avoids looking into your eyes, and presses his lips together.

But he holds you close.

"You don't have to say it back," you say quietly, stroking the lines of his face to carve them into your memory. "I don't mind."

"I can't say it to anyone, Wreny," he whispers, fighting for every word. "I never could, since my family and Cora-san."

He looks up and you see the sky reflecting in the bright eyes, the mild wind blowing his dark hair.

It hurts to see someone so perfect and so broken at the same time.

Those last words.

He looks up and you hold his hand as he talks.

"I feel an indescribable amount of care for those who're close to me, but I can't express it. Every time I try, his face, his smile is the first thing that appears in my mind," he says with a quivering voice, running a hand over the tattoo of his tanned skin.

Your chest aches with the pain of a thousand knives when a tear flows down on his cheek.

"This is the most wonderful thing we can ever feel and I just don't... understand how can it hurt so much at the same time."

You sit up over his lap and hug him as tightly as possible, trying to help the hollow that pushes him into this state.

"You have wounds that couldn't heal," you answer silently. The air seems to be heavy in your lungs, weighted with the words which left his mouth. "But I will find a way. I promise, that whatever I need to do, I will find a way."

The golden eyes finally wander to your face and you smile at him sadly, touching his face.

His heart appears and you move your fingers until you find the impact left behind by Rosinante.

You nearly start crying again when you notice how many other black parts he has. His parents, friends, his little sister. Everyone who passed away.

But for now, you stop at one. You know the limit of your strength.

"You can't do it for a long time, Wreny," he says and holds back your arm. "And it just hurts you too this way."

"This will be different," you whisper, and touch the pulsing light so it flies to the place between the two of you. "Temporary help will only damage it more if I do it often. I rather want to teach you how to win over it yourself, if that's possible."

You smile at him shakily.

"Humans are destined to fight their own demons."

"If it would be that easy, you wouldn't be in the same state," he answers, and you cast your eyes down.

"Healing others is always easier than healing yourself," you rustle. "But you are a doctor. You can treat your injuries if I show you how. Law, you are stronger than I am. We will both keep going to be our best, until we can live without regrets."

He doesn't answer this time, so you continue after taking a deep breath. The cold air runs down your throat and escapes while carrying your worry.

Right now, you forget everything that has happened in the past, to let the present of your Devil Fruit rule all your nerves.

You want to be yourself to help him. Sabo was right. You are scared of facing yourself.

But he gives you courage.
