003; commiseration
billie's pov
"i'm not drinking coffee. i promised my mother i wouldn't start doing drugs" i exclaimed sarcastically as katherine brought us two cups of coffee to our table. i gaze at her, admiring her wide smile as she took her seat. noting how her real smile looked.
we decided to go to a small café outside of town which was somewhat a quiet place, mostly old couples came here because of how peaceful it was. the yellow lighting made the room feel so cozy, and comfy pillows on the seats made it feel safe. almost like you were at therapy.
by the looks of katherine right now it's probably what she needed.
"i didn't know what you liked so i guessed" kat explained before taking a sip of her coffee.
"alright, but if this leads to hallucinogenics you'll have to deal with my mother" i joked making her smile again.
she shifts in her chair getting comfortable which unwillingly forced my eyes down to her chest, i focused on katherine's collarbone, exposed by her tank top, noticing a small but thick scar peeping out from underneath the jacket that i gave her earlier.
my brain kept telling me not to stare at it because, not only would it make her uncomfortable, but you never mention someone's scars. ever. it didn't look like a cut or a burn mark so it fathomed me for a moment.
"i know i've already asked but, are you sure you're alright?" i asked for the second time today, i dared to ask a third time in case i hit a nerve or made her upset. kat licked her lips before taking another sip of her drink, thinking of how to answer.
"you look like ana a night out in london" i joked trying to make it ease the situation for her. hoping she'd open up a little. "i don't drink" katherine replied, i scoff causing her to raise a brow at me.
"you're not a good liar" i shook my head with a small grin catching her in a lie.
"no?" kat furrows her eyebrows placing both hands on the cup, swirling the liquid around inside it awkwardly. "not at all" i smiled watching her play with her drink.
"you know how most people can't look you in the eye while lying?" i asked, katherine hums in response glancing up every couple of seconds.
"you do the opposite, hoping i'd believe you" i explained. i noticed her anxiously biting down on her bottom lip. maybe pointing that out wasn't such a good idea. i don't think she's been caught in a lie before. she seemed so confident when she lied straight through her teeth.
katherine was surprised that i could catch on to what she was doing so quickly.
"wait. you've been to england?" she queried in an attempt to change the subject, "a few times, yeah, have you?" i asked. kat shakes her head with a sigh escaping her lips.
her eyes seemed so tired and almost exhausted. although i knew katherine was happy to be out of school, "i've never been on a plane but it's a dream to see big ben" she elaborated. her eyes lit up at the thought of visiting london. i could tell she was passionate about it.
"all those lights" katherine says beneath her breath. i really wanted to make sure she was alright and i couldn't ask her for a third time today.
