Chase immediately pushes passed Shawn, ignoring everyone. Shawn's face showed panic as he grabbed at Chase's shirt, trying to stop him. "Wait!" Shawn desperately yelled.
Chase still ignored him, shaking off Shawn's grip with an angry grunt and opening the door to the room. I shot an apologetic look to the lost looking Shawn, following Chase into the room.
I stopped a little bit inside the entry way, looking at my now awake best friend. Chase had his arms wrapped around her, sitting on her bed. I knew instantly something was off. my heart began to race with fear as I watched the scene before me.
Devin held her arms awkwardly at her side, not hugging her boyfriend back. Her eyes, usually dreamy looking and loving toward him, were distant and confused.
"Devin, baby I've missed you so much," Chase, oblivious to Devin's obvious distress, spoke. His voice was shaking, full of raw emotion.
She coughed, and Chase let go. I could tell he was confused by her silence, his movements stiff. "Devin?" he asked, hands held out to her.
She looked up at him, but it was almost like she didn't see him. "I'm very sorry," she stumbled over the simple words, almost like she forgot how to talk. "But I don't think you have the right person. I don't know who Devin is."
The room was dead silent. Chase began to shake. "Wh-wh-what do you mean. You're Devin!" He began to yell, scared. I closed my eyes, unable to watch. Putting my hands in my face, I silently cried as Chase pleaded with a stranger to give his love back.
The nurse walked in at that moment. "Young man! You need to leave, Devin needs to rest," she said firmly, rushing to stand between Chase and Devin, who shrunk back into the bed. More tears rolled down my face as I realized this girl didn't act anything like Devin either. Devin would have stood up and rose to the challenge. But, Chase wouldn't be yelling at the real Devin either.
"But wait! That's my girlfriend!" I reach over to pull Chase back towards me as he screams in agony for his girl.
"That's my girl! She's mine! Don't take her from me." He reaches out towards her although there's no way for him to get to her. Tears pierce their way out of his eyes and mine as well.

We finally get Chase to calm down and now he's sitting in the car with me.
"Where the hell are we going? Devin doesn't even remember you or me and you are acting all calm. She was your best friend for Christ's sake." He scoffs.
I slam on the breaks in the middle of his street. "Yes that's right she was my best friend! She still is," my voice becoming a powerful yell. "I HAVE FALLEN COMPLETELY APART HERE! ITS AS HARD FOR ME AS IT IS FOR YOU, SHE HAD LOST EVERY MEMORY FROM DAY ONE OF US! SHE WILL NEVER REMEMBER ME."
My head rests upon the top of the steering wheel. My heart racing, I'm panting.
Chase's throat is scratchy as the words fall from his lips, "I- I'm so sorry Bray." He reaches over and puts his hand on my back.
I pick myself up and wipe off the tears. "Yeah it doesn't matter now. She doesn't even remember her name." I put my foot in the gas and finishing the drive to his house.
I pull to a stop on the side of the street. Both of us sit in silence, lost in our own thoughts. "Do we go back?" Chase whispers the question, asking what we all were thinking.
"Give her time. The doctors know what they are doing."
"Okay." and with that he left.
••
"Please Brayden, you can't stay home forever."
"Look Jc I don't know if I'm ready to just keep going on with my life when my best friends is gone." I say to Jc over the phone.
I move the pillows on my bed and pull back the comforter for a night of Netflix.
"Please just this one time. I made reservations at this restaurant out of town for us."
I sigh, "Okay, I guess so."
"Yay. Ok I'll pick you up at 8:00, babygirl." He hung up and I went to get ready.
I walked to my closet and put on a skater skirt and a sweater. I already have some makeup on so I just touch up and fix my hair into a curly braid. After final touches with my flower head band and my combat boots, I head downstairs.
"Where are you going miss?" My fathers questions me as I walk past the living room. He didnt even look up from the newspaper and he knew i was leaving.
"Uh, out to eat, with Shawn and Chase." I lied biting my lip.
He gave me a stern look over the charcoal black rim of his reading glasses. "11:00 young lady. No later than that." With a swift kiss on my father's cheek I walk outside to wait on Jc.
••
"Right this way Mr. and Mrs. Caylen." I shot a look at Jc and he shrugged with a guilty look on his face.
" Does this table suit your needs?" I nod and look down at the table. Jc pulls my chair out for me and I rest in the mahogany and silk chair.
Jc's POV
She is just absolutely, by far, the most beautiful girl i have ever laid eyes on. I have never been more happier in my life to be in love with such an amazing girl. She is the light that brightens up our dark world. She is mine. I couldn't ask for anything better.
"Justin I'm talking to you" Her voice snaps me out of my head.
"Sorry love, I was lost on the train of thought." I grab the menu and open it up. "What are you going to have?"
"Gnocchi." She says laying her menu on the corner of the table.
"I'll have that too, whatever it is." I smile grabbing her small hand and intertwining our fingers. I trace small hearts on her hand with my thumb.
The waitress brings out our food and we toast, with our glasses of champagne, to secrets that keep us one.
••
"It's a beautiful night don't you think?" She ask as we walk on the dark streets of the night. I guide her over to a park bench and we sit down, her legs rest weaved between mine.
"I'm looking at more beautiful things to notice." I know she doesn't like my cheesiness but I still love that grin and eye roll she does when I am cheesy.
The sounds of night surround us as we remain there on the park bench. Without a thought of doubt i lean in and kiss her. Placing my hand on her soft cheek. I feel her hand side on my arm, then pull me closer.
I have never missed someones lips so badly.
A phone call breaks the kiss. Brayden answers. "Hello?"
"What?"
"Okay okay I'm coming!""What is it?" I say worried.
"She remembers."
