Distant Memories

Chapter 9

Savvy's POV:
"Bookfest? Sounds boring."
I'm at Ruby's, crowded into a booth with Ally, Robbie, two of Robbie's friends, and Victoria, a girl from school, on the first official day of break. We all have malts in front of us. We are currently discussing Bookfest, an event in LA.
"It's not dumb, it's super cool. I've been wanting to go for SUCH a long time. A bunch of popular authors have booths, for autographing and stuff. All kinds of merch and prizes get given away, like tickets to movie premiers. Sometimes actors from movie adaptations even show up for autographs. Cynthia said she would take me and a couple of people if I got tickets."
"Why would you go to anything dealing with books? Reading's boring and dumb." Victoria comments.
"Well, seems how you're a typical blonde cheerleader, I don't expect you to understand the significance of words pieced together to form possibly life-changing works of art." I reply.
For a second, everyone is quiet. Robbie wraps an arm around my shoulder. Ally smirks and winks at me. Robbie's friends look at me in surprise. Meanwhile, Victoria sits with a look of intense concentration on her face. She is obviously trying to interpret my words with her limited cheerleader vocabulary.
Then one of Robbie's friends, Aaron, elbows him in the side. "Dude, you've scored yourself a feisty one."
I smirk. "But I could still kick your ass."
Robbie grins. "Yep, she definitely has spunk."
"Spunk? Is that even a word?" Victoria comments.
Ally bursts out laughing.
Victoria frowns. "What?"
Ally ignores her and turns to me. "I'm in for Bookfest if we can score tickets."
"Okay cool. Anybody else?"
"What days are it?"
"January 17-18."
"Nope." Robbie says. "I have a soccer tournament. Sorry, babe."
"Yeah, I can tell you're really sorry. You don't like reading either."
He just grins at me.
Ally's phone buzzes. "My mom is here, Sav. Guys, me and Savvy gotta go."
"Yeah, same, I have cheer in an hour an a half." Victoria says.
We all slide out of the booth and head to the exit.

Ally's POV-
I'm laying on my bed, reading, when my phone buzzes. I pick it up and check the screen.

I GOT TIX!!!!!!!!
I reply:
How many?
Three. u, me, & someone else.
Yes!!!! Had anybody specific in mind?
Nope
How about.. nah jk all the ppl at school r dumbasses
Pretty accurate lol
Ill think of someone
So will i
Well see who finds somebody first
Game on;)
I smile and put down my phone. A few minutes later, I reach over and shut off my light, promptly falling asleep.
