Savvy's POV:
I'm walking towards my locker to drop my books off because it's lunch. "Hey girl!" A voice calls from down the hall. I turn around and smile. It's Melissa, my new best friend. She used to be one of Bethany's cronies, but once she saw me insult her, she realized how stupid that crowd actually is. We're pretty close now. Aside from the fact that she's too peppy, she's great.
"What do you wanna get for lunch? Chick-Fil-A or In-n-Out?"
"Chick-Fil-A."
"Kay, let's go!"
She starts skipping next to me.
"Dude can you not?" I say.
"Sorry, I gotta." She smiles sweetly.
I groan. "Well, you go get the food, and I'll get our Starbucks."
"Okay."
I head toward the Starbucks. After ordering our drinks, I sit down at one of the tables and wait for my name to be called. I am checking my text messages when somebody sits down in the chair across from me. Expecting it to be Melissa, I say, "I already ordered. Now I'm just waiting."
Instead of a girly sounding response, an all-too-familiar masculine voice says, "Sav, I need to talk to you."
My shoulders tense up. Instead of responding, I get up and walk to the counter where the straws are. Robbie follows. I whirl around and hiss, "Stay the hell away from me."
He backs away, regret and sadness contorting his face. "I just wanted to apologize. Please, just give me a chance."
If I was a good and caring person, I would give him a chance. But I'm not, and I don't care how torn up he is. I'm just glad someone else is suffering, instead of me. I'm being selfish, but I lost the good side of me a long time ago.
But he doesn't stop talking. "Listen, hurting you was never my intention. I... I'm so sorry."
I just give him a bored stare. Then I hear my drinks called. I push past him, grab my stuff, and walk away. Before I leave, though, I turn and say to him, "I stopped caring who knows when. Just leave me alone and I might be able to forgive you." With that, I open the door and turn my back on him for the last time.
I stride towards Melissa's approaching figure. "What's wrong?" She asks as soon as she notices the sour expression on my face.
"My ex was bothering me." I say, not elaborating any further.
"Are you okay?" She asks hesitantly as we reach our table and sit down.
"I don't even know what okay means anymore." I murmur.
We eat the rest of our lunch in silence.
