Savvy's POV:
"Savvy!" I hear a voice call, and I turn around to see Ally walking up to me. "I'm so glad you came to see me before I leave." She says.
"Yeah, I mean, I'm not gonna see you till who knows when. Of course I came." I say with a tight smile.
There is an awkward silence. "Hey, you wanna go grab some lunch?" She asks. "I was planning on going to Subway with Michelle and Andrew in about five minutes."
Well, stupid, I came to hang with you, not just wander around a movie set. Why would I not wanna go? "Um, sure, I guess... Who are Michelle and Andrew?"
"Oh, Michelle is my makeup and hair stylist, and Andrew is the guy who's playing Sam."
As if I know who Sam is. She sees the blank stare on my face. "Aka my co-star." She finishes.
"Wait.. Andrew Paley?"
"Yeah."
"We're going to Subway with Andrew Paley?! The guy who played Jason in Fear City?!"
She looks at me strangely. "Yeah. Why?"
"Oh, no reason. Just he's only famous and freaking hot!"
She shrugs. "Okay. Well, are you coming or are you just gonna stand here all day?"
I frown, but she turns and doesn't see it. She walks towards a big white trailer, and I follow. She opens the door and walks in. Inside, two guys and a woman are talking. "Hey." Ally interrupts. "Are we gonna get lunch or what?"
"Right. I totally forgot, your highness." The woman says mockingly.
Ally rolls her eyes then turns toward the two men who are talking. "Drew, you coming?"
"Yeah." Then he notices me. "Who's that?"
"Oh, this is my friend, Savvy. Savvy, this is Michelle and Drew." She gestures to the lady and the taller guy.
"So can we go now?"
"Fine."
We all file out the door, and Ally heads toward the parking lot. Michelle grins at me. "Ally's the most impatient person on set."
"Hey!" Ally says. "No I'm not!"
"Yes, you are." Andrew cuts in.
Ally smacks his arm playfully. Half an hour later, I sit down at a table inside Subway, across from Drew. Michelle and Ally are still getting their food. "So..." I say awkwardly. "Would it be weird if I asked for your autograph?"
He laughs. "Nah, I was waiting for it anyway." He signs a piece of paper and hands it to me. I pocket it and smile. "Thanks."
"Yeah, no problem." We sit in silence for a moment when my phone rings. I check the caller ID. It's an unknown number. "Can I take this?" I ask.
"Sure, go ahead."
I get up from the table and go outside as I answer the call. "Hello?"
"Hi, is this, um... Savannah Evanston?" An unfamiliar feminine voice asks.
"Yes. Who is this?"
"I imagine that this will come as a shock to you, but please bear with me until I can explain everything." The lady says.
"Um, what the hell? Who are you and want do you want?"
"Savannah, it's your mother."
I freeze. "My mom is dead, and so is my mother. What kind of sick joke is this?"
"No, please listen, hun. I'm your birth mother."
I scoff. "Yeah, right. She committed suicide. She's been dead for fourteen years. I don't know who you are, but you are really getting on my nerves. Bye."
"Wait-"
I press the end button and walk back inside. I sit down and smile at Andrew. "Sorry about that."
----------
Someone knocks on my door and Cynthia walks in holding a phone with a serious expression on her face. "Savvy, someone needs to talk to you." She hands the phone to me. I grab it and press it to my ear. "Hello?"
"Savannah, it's your mother. Please don't hang up this time."
I groan and say to Cynthia, "Don't tell me you believe this weirdo."
She replies, "Just hear her out."
I put the phone to my ear again. "Okay, you can talk, but I'm not going to believe you."
The woman says, "Fine." She sighs. "Well, for starters, I jumped off a bridge all that time ago, as you probably know. But when I was in the ambulance, my heart started beating again, but it was faltering. I was put on life support and nobody thought I was going to make it. I was basically dead. I lay in a critical state for two months, on death's doorstep. Then one day my heart just decided to work. I woke up, and got better. I wanted you back because I regretted my mistakes, but you were far too deep in the foster system by then and I never was able to track you down, until now."
I'm silent. I don't really believe this stranger, but it makes sense, and I wish it didn't.
"Anyway, Miss Rosenberg and I will set up a time and place for us to meet each other."
Barely audibly, I whisper an "okay" into the phone. Cynthia takes it from me as I sink onto my bed, lost in the infinite mess of my thoughts.
