[THIRD PERSON POV]
The hallway Davina sauntered down had an eerie quietness about it, she didn't like the compound feeling this empty, it made her feel.. Lost, alone.
Clint had gone back home the night before, meaning there was only the four of them left.. Soon there would only be two.
Davina clenched her fists by her sides as she walked with purpose, digging her freshly cut nails into the palm of her hands. Ever since the girl was just twelve years old, these half-moon indents had started to scar, leaving four narrow lines on each palm.
She shook off her nerves and walked into the room she had requested to meet Steve.
"Well this brings back memories." He chuckled from bending over a computer screen.
She looked around the room the duo had once used to research Bucky, searching for an answer to help him. Back when they didn't know that Wakanda had the means to help the soldier.
The Penton girl muffled a laugh, walking over to the same chair she had once been seated at for such a long time.
Steve followed her, sitting in his own chair and wheeling it around the face her properly. The girl brought her knees up to her chest, a weak attempt at hiding the small bump that had started to grow in her stomach.
The man took no notice of her actions, instead his gaze remained on her face, an eager expression plastered across it.
"Why here?" He questioned curiously.
She cocked her head to the side in a questioning manner.
"When you asked if we could talk.. Why here? I haven't been down here for over a year, too many memories." He chuckled half heartedly.
The girl glanced around the room, taking in the small space they had been cooped up in, day in and day out. She shrugged. "I'm not sure, I guess I just wanted to talk to you alone."
The captain tilted his head forward, gesturing for her to get on with it. She sighed heavily. "Listen, Steve. You know I really appreciate everything you've done for me here.. For Bucky and I. But-"
"Holy shit your leaving me alone here with Wilson." Steve gasped, leaning back on his chair in discomfort.
"W-How did you know that?" Davina exclaimed in shock.
"Well, the way you were speaking and-"
"Bucky already told you, didn't he?" She interrupted, raising an eyebrow.
Steve looked around the room, avoiding her gaze, wearing an amused expression. "Yep, this morning. Sorry Vinnie." He chuckled.
Davina rolled her eyes before a serious expression took over her. "Look Steve, I'm sorry-"
"Don't apologise, some of us want more than just the compound, I get it, I'm not angry." He smiled at her.
"Are you sure?" She pressed slowly.
"Vinnie, I'm not going to stop you from living your life.. As long as you come and visit." He looked down at her, eyes narrowed the slightest amount.
She released a heavy breath filled with relief. "Oh thank god, I was so worried." She chuckled, standing up and walking out with Rogers by her side.
He flung a loose arm around her shoulders, walking the pair to the elevator. "Call me if Bucky gets too unbearable to live with, just a warning, he can't wash dishes for the life of him."
Davina smiled, happiness erupting through her veins. She felt bad about the secret inside he stomach she was keeping from Steve, deep down she knew he'd find out eventually, everyone would. People would start to ask why they couldn't come visit, why she wouldn't come visit.
Clint would get angry that he couldn't play monopoly with his favourite players, and Steve would get annoyed that she wouldn't come visit.
She forced all the guilt away, forcing it to come bother her another day.
Steve clicked his fingers in front of her face, snapping her back to the real world. "Hello? Earth to Vinnie! Have you told Sam?"
[THIRD PERSON POV (WITH BUCKY AND SAM)]
"YOUR WHAT?! NO!" Sam screeched at the top of his lungs, eyes popping out of his head as he yelled.
Bucky chuckled awkwardly. "Jesus Wilson, I didn't think you'd miss me that much-"
"OH YOU?! NAH! I don't give a damn where you go, Vinnie makes the best coffee, it's her i'll miss!" He exclaimed in horror.
Bucky squinted his eyes, looking at Sam with a somewhat disgusted expression. The elevator door opened, revealing Steve and Davina, walking into the living room.
"PENTON!" Sam screamed, whipping around to face her.
"Oh Jesus help me." She mumbled under her breath, walking up to the two men.
"Your leaving?! I have to me alone with Brooklyn?! Without my coffee?!" He was breathing heavily, eyes bulging in annoyance.
Davina chuckled uncomfortably. "You'll live birdie, you have Steve!" She exclaimed, a feeble attempt at brightening the mood.
Sam leant close to her, eyes full of fear. "That's what I'm worried about!" He whisper shouted, causing Steve to bring his hand up and whack that back of Sam's head.
"OW! SEE! YOU CAN'T LEAVE ME WITH HIM!" He screamed.
Davina rolled her eyes, using Steve and Sam's argument as a chance to escape away with Bucky. Once the yelling duo were out of ear shot, she wrapped her arms around Bucky's neck, pulling herself closer to him.
"That was hard." She mumbled into his chest.
"Try having Wilson spit in your face as you tell him the best coffee maker is leaving the building." Bucky grumbled, guiding the pair towards her room.
Once inside, he wrapped his arms around her waist, pulling her up so he was holding underneath her thighs, her legs crossed around his back and she buried her head in the crook of his neck.
"Aren't I too heavy now?" She mumbled.
"Doll- I can pick up a school bus with all the children still inside, shut up and just let me hold you." He grumbled back, hoisting her up so he gets a better grip under her thighs.
She murmured a word of recognition, tightening her grip around his neck and allowing her body to relax.
She felt him walk over to their bed and sit down, leaning his back against the bed frame, not letting go of his doll as her legs rest on either side of her.
He drummed his finger on her lower back, something he'd recently discovered calms her anxiety.
The girl rose her head from his neck, bringing her hands up to hold either side of his face. "We're gonna have to leave soon." She whispered. "It's been five months.. It's going to get to visible soon."
Davina used her left thumb to stroke his cheek, brushing her fingers along his skin. He leant into her hand, mumbling a few words. "Yeah I know."
Bucky leant his head forward, resting his head on her chest, relaxing into her warmth. She brought a hand up to his hair and tangled her fingers through it as he lift her off his lap and lay down under the covers, his love curled up next to him.
"Tomorrow.." He whispered.
Her body stilled as he wrapped his arms around her, pulling her slightly onto his chest.
"Okay.."
Bucky placed his metal hand on top of hers, drawing small circles into her skin until he was sure she was sleeping.
"This is a good thing." He whispered to himself. "это хорошо..."
