Chapter 12: Last Big Stop, Mel's Skills, and Juan's Mad Revenge

Xena and Gabrielle smirk a bit, and Gabrielle says, "Well now, I hope they got through to Pablo."

"I can't believe they let him back." Xena says.

"Maybe they did it to see what he may do." Gabrielle says as she sips some coffee. "That talk they gave him may have worked."

"Let's hope so." Xena says. "Mel is getting more confident."

"Yeah, she is. Are you sure you weren't helping her?" Gabrielle asks with a smirk on her face.

"No. After the battle with Ares, my spirit went back into the Chakram." Xena says. "What we are reading is all Mel. She's getting braver."

"Well, I'm glad! It seems as though Janice is helping her also!" Gabrielle says as she turns the page. "Let's see what's next on their journey." Gabrielle starts to read the next entry. "After Janice and I had a serious talk with Pablo, he thought long and hard about everything he did. And I believe it changed him. We left the next day and started traveling through the countryside and Janice and I were in awe of the beauty of it."

The scene now pans to Mel, Janice, and Pablo driving through Brazil. "Oh my! This is absolutely beautiful!" Mel exclaims.

"Yeah! I've never seen a country this amazing babe." Janice says smiling at Mel.

"Brazil is full of beauty; it's also full of danger." Pablo says as he focuses on driving. "We should be entering Amazon land in a week or so; it is there that the danger begins."

"Ok mack, you told us about the wild animals, spiders, and of course snakes! Let's enjoy the countryside!" Janice says.

"I know this, Senorita Janice. But now we have to worry about some of the tribes that we will be encountering." Pablo says. "Some may not be so kind to us."

"You mean we may get killed?!?" Mel questions.

"Not if we let them Senorita Mel." Pablo says. "There may be a chance that we have to fight them off if they get hostile."

"So you're saying that to get this relic, we may end up fighting Amazon tribes!" Janice proclaims as Pablo shakes his head yes. Janice cautiously sighs and says, "Ok then, I guess we'll have to prepare for this. Is there a town before we get to the jungles where we can stay for a couple of days to prepare for this?"

"Si Senorita." Pablo says. "There is a major town five hundred miles before we hit Amazon land; we will stay there for a few days. If you trust me, I will get the truck prepared for the jungles; you can get food and supplies." Pablo looks at the ladies and says, "Senoritas, after everything that has happened, I want to thank you for helping me get this relic. Even though it was wrong, what I did to the both of you, getting this relic to Mexico most certainly will save the world."

Janice looks at Pablo and says, "Mel can get supplies; I will help you with the truck."

"Prove to us that we trust you, Pablo!" Mel says seriously.

"Yes! Si! I understand Senorita's." Pablo says.

"Getting this relic and keeping Ares from resurfacing is all we care about right now." Janice says seriously.

Pablo looks at the ladies and says, "Understandable."

Later that afternoon, they stopped at the town of Campo Grande. You can tell that the city is growing, and construction is going on. Markets are all around as people roam from tent to tent. They find lodging and go into their room. They see two beds, and Pablo looks at them and asks, "I'm not getting tied up?"

Janice and Mel look at him and Janice says, "I have the key to the room; we figured you needed a break." Pablo smiles at them, but Janice states, "It doesn't change a thing about what you did. Prove to us that you're in this to stop Cortez and to stop Ares from resurfacing, and maybe we'll trust you more."
