Chap. 2 Calla

Calla Frost Hale wasn’t normally good at making friends, but she somehow managed to get three of them, one friend from each house. She was a Hufflepuff, Jaiden was a Gryffindor, Carina was a Ravenclaw, and Audrey was a Slytherin. She knew that she wasn’t, technically, supposed to be friends with Carina. First of all, she was a Ravenclaw. Hufflepuffs and Ravenclaws did not get along by Hogwarts standards. Second, she was muggle born. She and Audrey both had sort of prejudice families. Carina was just a sweet, and small, girl. They became friends almost instantly. She and Audrey became friends pretty fast, too. They could relate. They had many of the same interests and when she needed a break from Carina’s “goody, goody two shoes” she went to Audrey. Jaiden was… Jaiden. He was a half-blood and was always making jokes that they would all, one day, become villains. He was very smart, but not as serious as he should be at times.

Calla’s day at Diagon Alley had been an interesting one so far. She was the first of her friends to see the headlines. Dark Lord? There hadn’t been a Dark Lord for many years now. She had been talking to Carina and Jaiden about it in front of Olivander’s while waiting for Jaiden’s little sister, Annie, to get her wand. Carina and Jaiden were both shocked at the news. Carina, who had just bought a new book called The History of Harry Potter and Lord Voldemort by Hermione Weasley, immediately began flipping through pages. She didn’t find anything about the Dark Lord returning or having an heir, but she said it wasn’t impossible that it could happen. Calla wondered how the Potter and Weasley families felt about it. The youngest children of the families were both in their last year at Hogwarts. It must have been terrible to have almost gone through all of the Hogwarts years without any trouble. We always have interesting conversations. Calla thought, We’ll probably discuss it when Carina’s mother takes us to her house. They had all agreed to get together before school started again. Annie interrupted her thoughts by proudly exclaiming that she had a wand. Jaiden had to bring her back to his mother and Carina had to go find Aubrey to let her know they were ready to leave. They agreed to meet in front of Flourish and Botts. When Calla got there, she was the last one to arrive. She also found that Audrey was not in a very good mood.

“What did you do this time Jaiden?” she asked.

“Nothing! She was like this when I got here!” Jaiden exclaimed.

“Oh. Sorry, it’s normally something you did that makes her upset.” said Calla.

“Name one time that actually happened.” Jaiden said, defensively.

“Well, there was the one time…” Carina began.

“Never mind!”

Carina’s mother came at that moment. She was probably used to the crazy wizards that her daughter was friends with by now.
