Chap. 15 Jaiden

Jaiden burst out of the hospital wing. He was furious! The girls had just told him tonight he might die! Well they didn’t say that but look at what’s happened! Carina- attacked by a dementor, all the good in her life sucked out of her almost! Audrey- cursed and almost died in a pool of her own blood! Okay yes that was the worst thing in the world. He thought he was going to lose Carina to a vegetable full of woe, then Audrey. Lose his friend who was the best at fighting with him and usually won, not that he’d ever tell her that, to a curse that could kill you in minutes. Now they tell him he’s going to be beaten to death by a tree that kills blue birds for fun! NO WAY! But then again, the girls could be telling the truth and Eric was a mad man that eats people’s souls and likes to watch death. He remembered earlier this summer with the ‘eater of death’ who vowed it’s return and how Carina was attacked by a dementor, the pure DEFINITION of EATER OF DEATH. Well technically they eat happiness which is so peculiar for a creature so dark, ARRGH not the point Jaiden! Then, how Audrey mentioned the cloaked figure told her, how he was upset that his dementor hadn’t taken Carina, and how Audrey was going to die alone in- okay stop there you get the idea! The ‘son of a death eater’, as this being has been referred to, said that he’d come for our group. Every last one. Jaiden sighed and looked up. He was sitting in the library. Funny how time can slip your mind in a rant. he thought to himself. He checked the time. 9:45Twenty minutes until curfew. Better head back to the common room Jaiden. Let Eric know the plan to sneak out after curfew... and prepare for the worst. Little would Jaiden know ‘the worst’ would just be the beginning.

“Eric.” Jaiden whispered, “I need to talk to you.”

“Now?” Eric asked, clearly annoyed and tired.

    “It’s important.”

    “Fine.” Eric sighed.

“Not here.” said Jaiden, “We need to go somewhere private. Follow me.”

Eric followed Jaiden out of the common room and into the halls.

    “Okay, now what?” he asked.

“There might be a professor or someone here. We have to go somewhere else.”

Jaiden walked out the door and toward the whomping willow. He expected Eric to hesitate, nobody ever wanted to go near that tree, but he didn’t. He walked as nonchalantly as if he were walking down diagon alley which Jaiden found strange but shrugged it off. The two boys got closer and closer until Jaiden stopped. He was just out of the tree’s reach.

“I needed to talk to somebody about what’s happening.” Jaiden started.

    “Um... okay?” said Eric.

“I’m afraid for my friend’s lives right now. Rina getting attacked by a dementor that nobody else notices, a cloaked figure roaming the school halls cursing Audrey. How could something like this happen?”

    “I don’t know.”

“Well, there’s a rumor going around that I’m the one doing all of this. People are also saying that you’re next. I just wanted to tell you to be careful.” Jaiden said before starting to walk away.

“I will.” said Eric, “Who told you this?”

“Um... I just heard someone in one of my classes talking about it.”

“You should have been the one who was careful.” Eric mumbled to himself.

    “What was that?” Jaiden asked.

Suddenly, Jaiden felt a sharp pain on the side on his body. Next thing he knew, he was flying through the air. He hit the ground with a sickening THUD and the Womping Willow continued to pummel the poor sack of a wizard to shreds!

Meanwhile, Carina was sitting behind a bush watching the whole ordeal. She was sent by Audrey and Calla to spy on the boys, being the smallest and uninjured. When she saw Jaiden’s body fly through the air, she came running out of her spot screaming, “WHAT HAVE YOU DONE!?” and aiming her wand at Eric.

“You are so annoying.” Eric stated, “I wish the dementor had taken care of you.” with that, he flicked his wand, sent little Carina flying through the air and slamming her down next to Jaiden. At that moment, Audrey and Calla appeared.

“Wow!” exclaimed Calla, “I can’t believe that worked!”

“Yes, good job apparating.” agreed Audrey, “Now let’s get Eric.”

As Calla ran towards Eric, Audrey limped. Bloody damn broken leg! she thought.

Eric turned, “I’ll take care of you later.” he said knocking out Calla as well.

“Those are my friends that you just hurt!” exclaimed Audrey.

    “You’re next.” said Eric calmly.

    “Bring it.” Audrey challenged.

With that, Eric kicked Audrey’s broken leg.

“Ow!” Audrey screamed, “You did not just do that!”

    “Yes I did.” Eric smirked.

“I really, really hate you right now!”

“Stop lying, you’ve always hated me.” Eric said. That was the last thing that Audrey heard before everything went black.

The next evening, Jaiden woke up in the hospital wing. He looked around and saw his friends in the other beds, still unconscious from the night before. They were right! he thought, But maybe Eric was just scared. He probably didn’t mean to push me. I should talk to Carina or Calla about this. They would actually listen.

One thing still bothered him, “How did I get here?” he asked Mrs. Pomfrey.

“Professor Potter said that he heard you and Eric talking in the hallway. He followed you out and watched the whole thing happen. He didn’t tell me exactly what happened when he brought you all in. I’ve seen you four in here every week. Why don’t you just stay out of trouble?”

“Once you get in it, it’s almost impossible to get out.” Jaiden replied.
