Chapter 13 Carina

Chap. 13 Carina

"Now, let's not get accusing Miss Bernard." Professor Potter warned, "You and Jaiden should write Audrey's mother about this. She should know about it."

"She probably should." Jaiden agreed.

"Miss Bernard, may I speak to you in private?" the professor asked.

"Sure."

"Eric has reason to believe that Mr. Veerlander was the cause of this. Just be careful." whispered Professor Potter as he pulled Carina aside.

"I will."

"From now on, don't go anywhere alone. I don't want something like this to happen to any of you again. Tell Calla as well." said Professor Potter, no longer whispering.

"We will." Jaiden replied, "Come on Rina. Let's go find Calla."

Carina and Jaiden roamed the hallways looking for Calla, but she was nowhere to be found. Where is she? Carina thought to herself, I hope nothing happened to her. Next thing you know, the basilisk is going to come back.

"She's probably in her common room taking an exam." she said, more to herself than to Jaiden.

"You're probably right. Let's go to the library so we can write that letter to Mrs. Carter."

When they entered the library, they found Calla studying with a group of Hufflepuffs. Carina hurried past the table and sat down at the one farthest away.

"Can you get Calla to come over here?" she asked Jaiden as he approached the table.

"Why can't you do it?" he asked.

"Because I'm a Ravenclaw. Those girls and I... well we don't exactly get along."

"Fine, but you owe me."

"Thanks."

A moment later, Jaiden came back with Calla.

"This better be really important." said Calla, "I was in the middle of studying for the huge transfiguration exam."

"Oh, I can help you with that." Jaiden offered.

"It is really important." Carina replied to Calla, "Audrey just got hit with Sectumsempra and Professor Potter just told us not to go anywhere alone. I've also been meaning to tell you guys that I don't really trust Eric anymore."

"I don't really think anybody does." said Jaiden, "Even Headmistress McGonagall told me to be careful around him but that doesn't mean you should accuse him."

"Well, Professor Potter told me that Eric thought that you cursed Audrey"

"Eric thought what!?" Jaiden exclaimed.

"Professor Potter knew you didn't do it. You were with him the whole time. Now do you get why I'm suspicious?"

"Next time I see Eric I'm gonna..."

"No!" Carina interrupted, "If you do that, it'll only make him angrier and he might hurt more people. All we have to do is what Professor Potter said. We have to stay together and be careful."

"Well, if you don't trust Eric anymore, then maybe Audrey's bad feeling really means something. Anyway, I have to go." said Calla as she got up.

"I hate to admit it, but I do think Audrey was right."said Jaiden.

"I think that's the first time I have ever heard you say that." Carina smiled.

The next day, Carina and Jaiden went to visit Audrey. They found Calla and Eric sitting by her.

"Hey guys." said Carina.

"Hi." Eric replied.

"I had no idea she was this bad." said Calla, "How did this happen?"

Carina caught Jaiden and Eric eyeing each other suspiciously.

"I think I know the answer to that." said Eric, "I'm leaving. Carina, if you and Calla want to come, you can.'

"No." Carina answered, "I'm staying."

"Same." Calla agreed.

"Fine." said Eric. They suspect something. I can tell. But how do I make them trust me? he asked himself as he left the room.

"How is she?" asked Carina.

"No change really." Calla answered, "At least she hasn't gotten worse."

"I actually kind of miss her." said Jaiden, "She was usually the one who was right during a lot of the arguments that she and I had, but, you know, I couldn't just give in."

"I knew it." said a weak voice.

"Audrey!" Calla and Carina exclaimed.

"I didn't mean that! I just um... felt bad that you were, well, like this." said Jaiden, stuttering.

"Of course you were." said Carina rolling her eyes.

"Are you okay Audrey?" asked Calla, "How are you feeling?'

"I'm fine. I think I know who's behind all of this." She said weakly trying to sit up.
