Shawn stepped out of the elevator and into the main office of LD Marketing in downtown Toronto. It was Camila's first day actually working in her office so he wanted to surprise her. He even brought flowers. Now that he was officially her boyfriend he wanted to make sure she got as spoiled as she deserved.
He had another little surprise for her too, one that was currently folded up in his back pocket.
Shawn was immediately greeted by a receptionist sitting behind a large counter. He was older than Shawn but not super old — maybe in his late 30s.
"Hello!" he greeted happily, his eyes glancing down towards the vase of flowers in his hand. "Welcome to LD Marketing. I'm Simon. How can I help you?"
"Hi Simon. I'm here to see Camila."
"Cabello?"
"Yes."
"Do you have an appointment?"
"Um, no...?"
"Okay..." Simon grabbed his desk phone and lifted it to his ear. "And your name is...?"
"Shawn."
Simon nodded and punched in the number for Camila's phone. He looked at Shawn skeptically as he waited for her to answer.
"Hi, Ms. Cabello. There's a young man here to see you. His name is Shawn—" Simon sighed and nodded. "Yes, of course. I'll bring him up." He hung up the phone and stood up, moving from behind the counter and motioning for Shawn to follow up. "Follow me. I'll take you to her office."
The offices were impressive. They were industrial yet modern and clean. The whole building still had that fresh construction smell from the remodeling that had been taking place while Camila was working out of her apartment.
He and Simon rode the elevator up two more floors before stepping into a floor with a kitchen and a conference room, as well as a few more offices. He felt a sense of pride knowing his girlfriend was Vice President of such a swanky company.
