[spicy chapter]
"I'm scared."
"You have no reason to be scared."
"Yes I do!"
"No, you don't!"
"Shawn, when you pulled me out of work you told me that you wanted to take me to lunch. You didn't tell me I'd be meeting your mom while we were out."
"You're acting like she's some scary monster," he chuckled. "She's been literally begging me to let her meet you since I mentioned that I was dating someone. And she's an absolute sweetheart. I mean, I know that I'm biased...but still. You have nothing to be scared of."
"Should I have dressed up more?"
"Babe," he snorted. "You're literally wearing a skirt and heels. I don't think you need to be in a full ball gown for lunch with my mom."
"I just feel like I need more time to prepare," Camila huffed as they stepped into the small bistro where they'd be meeting Shawn's mom for lunch.
"Well I have to pee, so how about you find us a table and take some time to prepare while I'm in the bathroom?"
"Okay," she sighed, her heels clicking on the wooden floor as she walked towards a booth in the back corner. She was just about to sit down when she heard a familiar voice calling her name.
"Camila!"
She turned to the source of the voice at a booth a few feet away and smiled.
"Karen, hey!" she greeted as she approached the booth. "How are you?"
"Oh, I'm doing great! Same as usual. But how about you? Enjoying the apartment?"
"Yes, I love it. Especially the view...you picked a good one!"
"And what about the office — did they get all of those renovations done? Are you all moved in there yet or still just working from home?"
"Yes, we're all working from the office now! It's all been quite the adjustment but overall I've been loving life in Toronto. It's definitely a lot different from Miami but it's slowly starting to feel more and more like home."
"Well I'm so glad to hear that—"
"Looks like you two are already hitting it off," Shawn said as he came up behind Camila and draped and arm over her shoulders. Karen and Camila both looked at him with a look of confusion before their gazes snapped back towards each other in realization.
"Karen's your mom?"
"Camila's your girlfriend?"
"You two know each other already?" Shawn asked, now equally confused as they had been.
"Yes! She was my realtor!" Camila laughed as she turned back to Karen. "Oh my god, wait! You tried to set me up with your son the day I moved in!"
"And you turned me down!"
"Because I was on a mission to find Shawn!" Camila laughed. "Oh my god, I could've found him a lot quicker if I would've just taken you up on that offer."
"I feel like I'm missing parts of the story," Shawn chuckled. "Why don't we sit down and order and you two can catch me up."
Shawn and Camila joined Karen at her table and ordered their food and drinks before getting back to chatting.
"Shawn, honey, I'm pretty sure I tried to set you up with Camila at one point too...at Jace's hockey game?"
Shawn thought back for a moment before realizing which moment his mother was referring to.
