Camila's knee was restlessly bouncing where she sat in the front seat of the car.
"Excited?" Shawn chuckled, looking down at her leg. They were only about five minutes from their house. As much as they both enjoyed their honeymoon, they were also extremely ready to be home again with their family.
"Beyond excited. And perhaps also a bit too caffeinated. I think that second cup of coffee on the plane was maybe a bad idea."
"You're gonna need the energy. I have a feeling Maggie's gonna be bouncing off the walls when we get there."
They pulled up outside of their house just to see the little girl's face pressed up against the window, watching for their car. The moment she spotted them, she started jumping up and down with excitement. They both laughed as they watched her. Shawn parked in the garage.
"Go ahead and head inside," Shawn told his wife. "I'll grab the bags."
Camila didn't waste any time. She went inside and was immediately greeted with the excited squeals of a hyper-active three year old.
"Mommy!" she yelped. Camila squatted down as the little girl ran towards her a full speed, wrapping her tiny arms around Camila's neck.
"Hi my sweet girl!" Camila squeezed her tight. "Did you have so much fun with grandma and grandpa?"
"Yeah!"
Just then, Shawn walked through the door with their bags. Maggie's eyes lit up when she saw him. Shawn put their bags down just in time to catch the toddler that was bolting towards him. He lifted her up in his arms and hugged her tight.
"Stinky! I missed you so much." He kissed her cheek.
"How was she?" Camila asked Karen. Karen just smiled.
"An angel, as always."
"And her brother?" Shawn asked.
"Also an angel!" Karen told them. "You guys are raising some pretty good kids, ya know. You should make another."
"Working on it," Shawn replied. Camila snapped her head over towards him, her eyes widening. "What?"
"You don't need to tell everyone," Camila said shyly, her face turning bright red. Both Shawn and Karen started laughing.
"Where's Jace?" Shawn asked, changing the subject — much to his wife's relief.
"He and Chloe had a doctor's appointment. Just a check-up, but they only left about ten minutes ago so it'll probably be a bit before they get back." Karen lifted her duffle bag and slung it over her shoulder. "It's so cute — he's been reading his parenting book so diligently. He was even taking notes at one point. You can tell he really wants to be a good dad."
"He will be a good dad," Shawn said confidently. "He's done a lot of growing up in the past year. It's gonna be interesting to see how much he continues to mature once he has a kid."
"Luckily he has a good role model." Karen put her hand on her son's shoulder. "Alright, I've gotta head out. Your dad and I are meeting up with some friends for dinner and I don't wanna be late." She hugged both Shawn and Camila, as well as Maggie. "Love you guys! Enjoy being back home!"
Karen left, leaving just the three of them in the house.
"Do you want me to carry the luggage to the bedroom?"
"Not yet," Camila told him. "I wanna get all our laundry out and sorted first." Shawn nodded and rolled their luggage over to the laundry room. Camila practically swooned when she saw him unzip their suitcases and start sorting out their dirty laundry. She never could've predicted when she was younger that some of the sexiest things she could witness her husband do would be simple chores like laundry, doing the dishes, or sweeping — but damn. Maybe the guys she had dated in the past were just too immature because something about seeing Shawn take on a homemaker role really did something to her. He got the first load of laundry washing and then carried their luggage to their bedroom to finish being unpacked.
