Chapter 154: Spiderwebs
After dropping Robert off at his apartment and making sure he was okay, David drove them back to his apartment.
"Thanks for helping me with him again," he said, as they entered the apartment.
"You're welcome...it was the least I could do after everything you've already done for me and my son," she replied. He smiled and felt his breath catch again, as he looked at her. He hadn't noticed a woman since Margaret's death, but he was captivated by Mary. She had consumed his thoughts since the moment he had lay eyes on her and guilt ate at him for that. He knew it shouldn't, for Margaret had been gone a long time. Still...the idea of being with someone other than her was foreign to him. He had steadfastly rejected any advances from any of the single mothers at Iris' school, but something was different with Mary. He felt something pulling him toward him and yet could not discern why. She simply gave him a warm smile, before looking to their kids, who were watching a movie.
As it was ending, Iris went upstairs to bed, while he pulled out the couch into a bed for Bobby. He watched and felt a flutter in his heart, as he watched Mary tuck him in and kiss him.
"Goodnight David," she said, as she went up into the loft.
"Goodnight Mary," he replied, still trying to make sense of all the stirrings in his heart.
As she got ready for bed, she felt Iris' eyes on her every now and then. As they settled down into bed, Snow finally spoke.
"Thank you for letting me share your space. I know this is probably awkward for you," she said.
"It's fine..." Iris replied and Snow could tell there were questions on her mind.
"You can ask me anything...it's okay," Snow said.
"So...you have more than one personality?" Iris asked curiously. Snow took a deep breath.
"Yes...but you don't have to worry. Neither of them are dangerous," she assured.
"So...who are you right now? Are you really Mary? Or are you someone else?" Iris asked, as she looked at her. Snow tilted her head to the side.
"Usually Mary is very confused, but I tell people that's my name since my other one is a little hard for people to understand," she responded. Iris looked at her expectantly.
"Right now...I'm Snow," she revealed, expecting disbelief from her cursed daughter. But what she received instead was a complete surprise. Iris' eyes filled with tears and she looked at her.
"Mom?" she asked in a whisper. Snow's eyes widened in shock.
"Summer?" she asked hopefully. Her daughter nodded her head and practically threw herself in Snow's arms.
"Oh baby..." she cooed, as tears slipped down her face.
"You're awake," Snow gushed, as she held her daughter's face in her hands.
"Only for a couple days now..." she replied.
"I've been so worried about all of you, but at least I know you were safe with Daddy," Snow said.
"Mom...I haven't found anyone else though, except Grandpa, but he's always drunk," Summer said sadly. Snow brushed her fingers through her hair.
"I know sweetie...but I think you'll be happy to know that I found your Nana tonight," Snow said excitedly. Summer's eyes widened.
"But I thought you and Daddy went to Roni's to get Grandpa?" she asked. Snow nodded.
"Roni is Regina...and I start working in her bar tomorrow," she confirmed. Summer smiled and hugged her again.
