Chapter 170: I Can See For Miles
"And I was so focused on finding this killer that I walked right into Jack's trap...or Nick, whatever he's going by here," David explained to his daughter, as he drove them to the station.
"We all have our off days, Dad. Plus you weren't completely you and didn't remember who this guy really was," she reminded.
"I know...I got lucky though," he said, smiling fondly.
"Your Mother felt the danger I was in and found me. She brought me back and my memories came rushing back then," he said and she smiled at that.
"Nothing can keep you and Mom apart...not for long anyway," she replied. He frowned.
"Except they did this time, Em. Two years and they put your mother through hell. They forced pills down her and hurt her...and I wasn't there to stop any of it," he said, as he gripped the steering wheel.
"Dad...none of this is your fault," Emma assured.
"Maybe not...but I keep promising her no more separations. No more needing to find each other...and I just can't seem to keep that promise," David lamented.
"And those responsible are going to pay for what they've done, just as they always do," she assured, as she reached over and squeezed his hand. He smiled slightly.
"I've missed you..." he said. She smiled.
"I missed you too, Daddy and we're going to fix everything," she promised, as he pulled into the parking lot and they went into the station.
"Sergeant," he addressed the desk officer.
"Detective Nolan...I didn't expect to see you today. There were reporters hanging around her earlier, but Rogers chased them off," the sergeant stated. He sighed.
"Then I owe him one for sure. Is he still here?" David asked.
"No, he actually just left with one of Weaver's informants...Tilly I think her name is," he replied, as he noticed Emma.
"Okay...guess we'll go track him down. Any hits on the ABP on Nick Branson?" he asked.
"Afraid not...but I don't believe we've met," he mentioned.
"Detective Swan...I'm new around here," she introduced herself.
"Welcome Detective Swan...you're shadowing with the best Detective in Seattle here," he boasted and David rolled his eyes. Emma smiled.
"So I've heard," she agreed.
"Call me immediately if we get any sightings on Branson," David said, as they walked away.
"We'll get him...you always find your guy," the sergeant assured, as they walked away.
"I see you've kept up your reputation of being good at finding people here too," she mentioned. He smirked.
"Guess so and with both of us...we'll find that snake in no time," he assured, as they both ran right into Gothel on their way out.
"Well, well, if it isn't Detective Rogers esteemed partner. I'm Eloise Gardener," she said, introducing herself with a smug smirk.
"Save the fake pleasantries, Gothel," he hissed. She smirked in amusement and didn't hide her surprise at Emma's presence.
"Well...I must say this is definitely a surprise, Savior, but then you have always proven to be formidable," she said.
"Oh, you have no idea and I'm sure me being here throws all kinds of problems into whatever sick plan you have," Emma responded. Gothel smirked and shrugged.
