Hello folks,

After posting last week's chapter, it finally occurred to me that Spotter was nearing its end. Today's chapter is the first of the final three. In order to give Spotter it's proper ending, I'll only post one chapter per week, so that nothing is rushed. We'll be done by Thanksgiving. 🥺

It breaks my heart to see this story end, but this is the ending I always had planned. It will also give me the opportunity to write other fanfics that I've had planned for ages. I cannot thank you enough for your support, and I genuinely hope you enjoy these next three chapters.

Thank you for making Spotter #1 in the ErwinxReader tag.

Y/N brushed her teeth and watched Erwin meander around their room. He was getting dressed at a snail's pace. Even when she was done and returned to the bedroom, Erwin was readjusting his bolo tie over and over. Y/N stood in front of him and gently moved his fingers to the side.

"What's wrong, love?" Y/N asked while she fixed Erwin's tie.

When she finished, Erwin brought her hand up and held it against his cheek. "Nothing, I just don't want to leave yet."

After the breakfast scare yesterday, Erwin had not left her side. But today all the work he had pushed off the last few weeks was catching up to him.

"I'm sorry, Erwin. I don't like being away from you either," Y/N said.

Their room was now filled with her plants; the green added to the already calm and serene energy. Her bedrooms throughout her life had never felt like home in the way this room did.

"Is it too much... Uhm, is it too much to ask you to accompany me?" Despite their proximity, Erwin was avoiding eye contact.

Y/N had wanted to ask to come along ever since the meeting was scheduled, but she didn't want to get in his way. Hange was insisting that she take a month off; she had originally said two months, but Y/N had managed to get her down to just one. His offer came as a relief to her, but really, she knew how much it would mean to him.

"Can I?"

Erwin's blue eyes flicked to hers.

"Absolutely."

To anyone else, he might have seemed calm as usual, but Y/N could hear the hint of urgency in his voice.

"Let me get dressed," Y/N smiled and kissed his cheek.

Y/N spent the next three days in the background of various meetings. Some were in his office while others were in a large conference room. Her squad mates purchased her a horticulture tome as a 'get well soon' present, so she was more than happy to sit with a pot of tea and read for hours.

She didn't care to listen in on the meetings; if it was important, he would tell her about it after. She only cared about reassuring Erwin. He had been there every step of her recovery, now it was her turn to support him.

Erwin also went through a lot during the incident, but he wasn't quick to admit it. To Y/N, it felt like he was pushing off his own trauma until she was better. She hoped that by being there for him, even in such a simple way, he would relax enough to process everything.

At a small desk in the corner, Y/N sat leaning over the thick book and holding her teacup suspended in the air. Her back was to the wall, and the meeting took place a few steps in front of her. She was so engrossed in her book that she didn't hear a word that was said.

"Thank you all for attending today's meeting. I will see you next month."

The sounds of chairs scraping along the wood floor alerted Y/N to the end of the meeting, but she didn't look up yet.
