Y/N looked up at Erwin confused when they walked past the stable; she had assumed they were going to take a horse to their picnic destination. When Y/N looked back at the stables, Erwin spoke up.

"It's not far," Erwin chuckled. "See the crop of trees on top of the hill?"

He pointed ahead of them, and Y/N nodded her head.

"There's a nice little spot on the other side of those trees. You can see the village off in the distance."

He had a blanket draped over his left arm while he held a basket with the same hand. His free hand was empty, however. They had never been able to hold hands while walking together; in fact, this was the first time the two would even be seen walking together without Hange present. Y/N kept instinctively reaching for his hand, and she would have to stop herself. It was frustrating, but she didn't blame Erwin. They had agreed to keep their relationship to themselves until they were ready, and she didn't want to rush him.

The bottom of the hill began a short distance behind the stables. The trees started off scattered and far apart but got thicker as they climbed up hill.

"Erwin, there's not a path. How did you even find this?" Y/N complained as she lifted the skirts of her sundress as they climbed the hill. She tried to avoid the sticks and leaves that tugged at the dark green fabric.

This is my only nice dress.

"Was it not the goal for it to be secluded?" Erwin said with a smirk over his shoulder.

That stopped her complaints immediately. She was so excited to be alone with Erwin that she didn't really care that they were outside walking through the foliage. They couldn't exactly go to an inn or a bed and breakfast; Erwin would be recognized anywhere they went.

The moment the trees blocked both the stables and the Scout Headquarters from their view, Erwin and Y/N reached for the other's hand. Erwin laced his finger through hers, and they both squeezed. Y/N looked down at their hands then up at Erwin. She hadn't realized how much she wanted such a simple form of affection until that moment.

Meanwhile, Erwin's heart clenched in his chest at the look on her face. Fuck. I really like her.

He resumed their walk and continued to hold her hand to guide her through the trees. As she stepped over big logs or puddles, he would stop and hold her hand up to offer support.

"You're such a gentleman," Y/N complimented him after she crossed a spot of mud.

He blushed as she wrapped her arm around his bicep and rested her head on his shoulder. Her other hand held up her skirts as they completed their walk. His heart felt so warm just from being able to walk like an actual couple.

Erwin kissed the top of her head as they approached the opposite tree line. He slipped his arm free and set the basket in the grass.

"Where should we put the blanket?" Erwin asked Y/N.

"It feels so nice outside, we should enjoy the sun." She moved to point at the spot she wanted just away from the trees.

He spread the blanket open and flicked it in the air, then he laid it down where she had directed. Y/N carried the basket over and set it on the blanket to hold the fabric down. After they were both seated, Erwin opened the bottle of wine.

"I'm almost positive Hange stole this from Levi." Erwin said while he poured a glass.

Y/N laughed. "What?"
