The Encounter

~Two Weeks Earlier~

On a normal day, Erwin would work out in the gym late at night in an attempt to exhaust his body. His mind was always occupied by thoughts of scouting new land, Titans, Shiganshina. The constant barrage of questions and plans made it difficult to fall asleep, so the gym was a convenient solution. A weary body usually won out over an active mind. It was also a plus that most of the time the gym was empty when he was there.

But today they had gone on a difficult mission that left Erwin drained enough to fall asleep with ease. Because of this, he didn't go to the gym at his usual time and was forced to go in the early morning. He was already on his way out when the first few Scouts began trickling in. He was happy to be leaving before it got crowded.

Erwin felt out of it from the break in his routine, so neither he nor the person he bumped into were paying attention.

"Fuck," the woman blurted out.

Erwin noticed her (Y/E/C) eyes were dreary with sleep and her hair was falling out of the braid that hung down her back. She had clearly just woken up before coming here. The fatigue, and irritation, fled from her face when she realized it was her commander looking down at her.

"Oh!' She stood up straight, more alert now. "Commander, I'm so sorry. I wasn't paying attention."

Erwin held back a smile at how flustered she was. She's rambling. How cute.

"It's fine." He gently cut her off. "I wasn't looking where I was going."

She visibly relaxed and offered him a soft smile. He felt a blush rise up his neck. He didn't want her to stop smiling at him like that. Afraid of ruining the moment, he didn't know what to say. They remained that way in a comfortable silence for a few more moments before they were interrupted.

"Y/N! There you are. You're late." A man's voice called from further inside the gym, behind Erwin.

He turned around and saw a young cadet whom he believed was called Reiner. The blond man saluted when he recognized Erwin.

"Good morning, Commander," Reiner said.

"Hello," Erwin said, then turned back to the woman. "Enjoy your workout, Cadet." He smiled at her one more time, which elicited a smile in response.

"Thank you, Commander." A slight blush dusted her cheeks as they parted ways.

~Today~

"Okay enough." Levi snapped. "Since when do you work out when all the brats are there?"

Erwin froze while leaving his office. He felt like a child caught awake after bedtime.

"Since when are you concerned with my workout schedule, Levi?" Erwin tried to recover quickly. He shut his office door and began walking towards the gym.

Levi squinted at him before rushing to catch up. "Fine, then I'll join you."

"That's not necessary, Captain." Erwin quipped as he turned down the hall of the gym.

"'Captain'? Oh, something is definitely going on."

Erwin rolled his eyes and decided to stop arguing before they entered the facility. Anything to stop Levi from drawing attention to them. Together they walked to the locker room to get dressed.

After the two men exited the locker room, Hange appeared next to them.

"Not you, too," Erwin sighed. He headed towards the first machine in his routine.

Hange and Levi followed behind him; Levi glared at anyone who looked to question their presence. Erwin stopped at the machine and turned to face his friends.

"We just want to know that you're okay, Erwin." Hange said loud enough to make Levi flinch and cause Erwin to look around, making sure Y/N wasn't close to them.

He saw her across the gym in front of the mirrored wall. He had meant to look away quicker, but he got distracted by her hips in her spandex pants. Both Hange and Levi were too quick. Simultaneously, they followed his gaze to Y/N then looked at each other.

"Awe! Erwin, do you have a crush?" Hange did her best to whisper, though her best was hardly impressive.

"Hange!" Erwin scolded.

"Why don't you talk to her?" Hange continued, ignoring him.

Levi was craning his neck to see around the machines and people. "She appears to be alone."

"No, she usually works out with Cadet Reiner," Erwin said before he could stop himself.

All three pairs of eyes widened at his words.

"No, wait-" Erwin tried to backpedal.

"Oh my god!" Hange aggressively whispered at him.

"She doesn't have a spotter," Levi added. "Reiner isn't in the gym."

"Yes!" Hange began pulling at Erwin. "Go! Offer to spot her!"

A thousand thoughts were skittering around Erwin's mind. She wouldn't want some guy coming up to her at the gym. Let alone her commander. He didn't want her to feel pressured to be nice to him. And he would have to be so close to her in those tight pants.

His thoughts were cut off by Hange shoving him in Y/N's direction.

"Hange, this is inappropriate!" Erwin tried to protest.

"Go." Levi demanded with his arms crossed over his chest.

"What the hell just happened?" Connie scream-whispered.

"Shut up, Connie!" Y/N threatened. "Don't say a word, or I swear I will make your life a living hell."

Connie's eyes got wide. Y/N felt a little bad for threatening a child, but not that bad.

"No, yeah, of course. Not a word out of me." Connie said as he fled.

"Why did he run?" Hange questioned Levi.

"I mean... I have a guess." Levi smirked.

It took Hange a moment before she giggled. "He's going to kill us."

Levi shrugged and turned to leave. He hesitated when he saw Y/N looking at them.

"Let's go, Hange."

Y/N was confused. Hange is here? Didn't he say he had a meeting with her? She sighed and retired to the locker rooms where she spent her entire shower reliving the encounter.
