Chapter Nineteen: Dreams Can Be Revealing

My heart starts to pound, beating at a mile a minute. It's cold, dark and foggy in this large open field and I'm surrounded by unfamiliar woods. How did I get here? Not more than an hour ago I was at home in my bed and now I've awoken in this horrible place.

The sound of howls coming from the woods scares me to the core. I start to back away slowly from the edge of the field and into the middle. Once I get halfway there a shadow emerges from the woods.

"Who's there?!" I ask in a loud, shakey voice.

No one answers, the figure just moves closer to me. I start to back up a little quicker now, terrified the person has bad plans in store for me.

"Stop." A piecing low voice demands, cutting through the silence of the night.

The voice sounds strangely similar to mine, but only there's a higher pitch to some notes. I stop backing up, standing there frozen with both fear and confusion. The shadow steps out from the dark and into the moonlight to expose itself.

Her hair is a dark, curly brown and her eyes are red, blood hungry. Not only does her voice sound like mine, but she looks like she could be my sister as well. Her lips are thin, much smaller than my thick lips, but she has the same nose. Her body is heavier built than mine though, she must work out a lot to stay that skinny.

"Who are you?" I question, bewildered by the sight of her.

"I'm you." She states in a calm voice, inching closer to me.

"But... How? I don't understand." This girl can't be me, I'm me.

"Lisa, what have you done to us?" She asks, stopping her movement once she's close enough to where I stand.

"Us? Look I just want to go-" Her finger presses against my lips, causing me to stop my train of thought.

"Ssh!" She whispers. "We don't have much time." Her voice becomes worried, like she has something important to say but can't get the words out.

"Much time for what?"

"Lisa, you have to decide. The Gods are angry and there's no telling what the future holds if you don't pick a mate soon." She warns.

"A mate? Look I think you have the wrong girl!" I back away from her words, this chick is crazy!

"Lisa Lee Rose!" Her voice booms as her eyes grow darker with anger. "You have no idea what mess we have caused and it's up to you to fix it. Pick. A. Mate!" She hollars, stressing each word at the end.

"WHAT THE FUCK IS A MATE?!" I start to shout, angry at her outburst on me. "Are you fucking high or some shit?"

"What have I become?" She asks with sadness in her eyes. "This isn't what I wished for."

A sudden rush of sadness courses through my body at the sound of her words. "Look lady, you're freaking me out right now." Why am I feeling her emotions?

She puts her head in her hands and shakes it. "Lisa please, just don't let anyone claim you." Are her final words before disappearing into thin air.

I stand there, mouth wide open at what just happened. Who was that? Why did she take me? What's a mate? Where the fuck am I? How the fuck do I get home?!

I spin my body, searching for an exit, for a clue to leave. I stop when my eyes fall upon the left corner of the field where the woods are. A giant grey and white wolf stands there. It's growling at me, flashing me its sharp, K-9 teeth. I back away slowly, watching its movements with wide eyes. The wolf barks at me, inching closer and closer, probably to come in for the kill.

I scream as it throws its body up in the air, lunging for mine. I crouch to the ground, placing my hands over my head in protection. I sit there for a minute, shocked when nothing hits me, but I hear another bark.

I get off the ground, turning to face someone fighting the wolf.

"Hunter, she's mine." Severide's voice echoes through the forest.

Severide...? Hunter...? What's going on?

The two go at it, wolf verses human, matching each others strength. It's clear to see there won't be a winner of this quarrel anytime soon due to the fact they're both so headstrong. I take the opportunity to back away while they're distracted.

When I reach the edge of the feild near the woods I step on a twig, having it give off a crunch sound. Both heads turn to face mine and I can't help but gulp in fear. Their bodies stalk closer to mine, both whispering "Mine." the whole way.

I turn to run into the woods, but I trip over a log and hit my head. Everything is quick to become fuzzy and fade away into darkness. All I'm left with is the girls voice repeating itself over and over.

"Don't let anyone claim you."

I wake up in my bed in a full sweat screaming and clutching the blanket for dear life.

"Lisa!" Severide jumps up from sleep, pulling my body to his. "Are you okay?" He asks, kissing the top of my head.

I don't answer, unable to find the words to answer him. What was that whole scene? I cry into his warm, bare chest as he holds me close.

"Ssh, it's okay Lisa. It was just a dream, you're fine." He cooed into my ear, stroking my hair in comfort.

I wrap my arms around his body, relaxing into the bed. "Severide, I saw something." I finally manage to get out.

Severide's eyes widen at my words. "What did you see?" He asks eagerly.

"I have no idea, I'm too confused to understand it." I shake my head, squeezing my eyes to hold back anymore tears.

"Relax Lisa, just go back to bed. We can talk about it in the morning." He whispers, holding me tighter.

I try to close my eyes, but everytime I do all I can picture is that dream. It replays in my mind like a broken record and I can't get it to stop. The girl with her words and warning. Both Severide and the wolf addressed as Hunter. What could it all possibly mean?

I'm not one to look into dreams and imagine they have a deeper meaning, but that was too all real fo me. Everything about it scared me, eveything was exposed. It's like my mind opened a different part that I've never seen before and all I want is for it to make sense.

I need some answers, normal people don't get those kinds of dreams. The only question's are who do I ask and what do I ask? Am I going crazy? Will Severide think I'm crazy if I tell him about it?

God I never used to think so much about things... What's happening to me?!
