Chapter Nine: History With Vanessa

I woke up in a pitch black room, stumbling out of bed to turn on the light. Hunter must of carried me in here after I fell asleep on the beach. Yesterday was such a good day it almost doesn't feel real... I've never let my guard down like that and it felt nice to. Being with Hunter makes me feel complete, at ease, and normal. All the bad fades away and only the good has room in my life when I'm with him.  

Getting marked might not be so bad if it's with Hunter. I would mark him, he would mark me, everyone would know that him and I are together forever. The whole idea sounds so romantic now that I'm in love. 

Yes, I admit it, I've fallen for Hunter! It might not actually be love, but it's really close to it. Everything he does makes my heart jump, my body burn and my head swirl. These are the feelings of a mate and I think I'm just about ready to go all in.  

I couldn't help but smile at the idea of having Hunter everyday, forever. It's decided, come morning we mark each other and start our lives together. I'm ready, I'm happy.  

I walked over to the door of the room and slipped out as quietly as possible. Making my way down the hall attempting to tiptoe and not wake anyone up. I entered into the dimly lit kitchen, heading towards the fridge. After scanning for something to drink I settled on a bottle of water.  

"Lisa." A familiar voice startled me, I turned around on my heel to face them. 

"Vanessa?" I gave her a confused look, why is she awake at this time? 

"What are you doing out here?" She asked. 

"Getting something to drink," I lifted the bottle of water into her view. "Is that okay?" I asked sarcastically. 

She narrowed her eyes, giving me a bitchy look before talking. "Actually no. Back to your room." She ordered. 

"Excuse me, but who the hell put you in charge of me?" I glared 

"Hunter," She stated. "I'm a Beta which means when he isn't around you listen to me." 

"I think you have your facts wrong. One, I'm not in your pack yet," I lifted a finger to count them out for her. "And two, when I do join I'll be the lupa." Hearing me say that shocked not only Vanessa, but also myself. 

"We'll see about that." Vanessa's shocked face turned hard in an instant. 

"What the hell does that mean?" I questioned coldly. 

"It means that once Hunter comes to his sense, I'll be the female Alpha." Something inside me kicked my body into an overdrive of anger. She has to be kidding if she thinks Hunter will ever love her more than me. 

"Oh he hasn't told you of our history?" An evil grin stretched across her face. "I used to be his." 

Every word was a dagger in my heart. She had to be lying, Hunter would never love someone as evil as her.  

"You're lying." I called her bluff. 

She shrugged off my words. "Don't believe me? Ask him." 

I could feel my eyes growing red as the Rogue inside could no longer be contained. She had pushed me to my limit and there was no telling how this would end for her. I lunged across the kitchen counter, pouncing on her body. I pinned her weak arms to the ground, growling in her face.
