ELEVEN

It's when she's sat in Jisoo's office, on the other side of her desk, that Lisa's guilt is starting to eat away at her. The truth about the nature of her relationship with Jennie is on the tip of her tongue, and she fears that if she opens her mouth, it may just fall out.

There's something about the way Jisoo is staring at her, with stern eyes and a straight face. It's almost like she already knows. At least, that's how Lisa feels.

She can't hold it in for much longer. She needs to let it out. Or at least some of it.

"Ruby Jane came to my house last night," she says it so quickly and suddenly that Jisoo flinches in surprise. But when she processes what Lisa has just said, her stern face resumes.

"What?"

Lisa can sense a scolding.

"She came to warn me," she says just as fast, so Jisoo can focus on the fact that Lisa may be in danger.

It works. Jisoo shakes her head and her expression softens. "Warn you about what?"

"The syndicate has put a hit out on me. Or they had. I'm not sure how high I am up on their hit list, but according to Ruby Jane, I'm definitely on there."

"Oh my God, Lisa!" Jisoo immediately reaches for her phone. "We have to get you into a protection programme."

"No!" Lisa yells, clamping down on Jisoo's hand and blocking her from carrying out a call. Jisoo looks back up at her in confusion. "There's no need," she brings her voice down.

"Lisa, now is not the time for you to be stubborn." Jisoo tries to free her hand but finds it's held down too tight. "Let go of my hand."

"I will if you promise not to do that."

"You're being an idiot."

"Jisoo, please."

Jisoo sighs and then nods. Lisa slowly pulls her hand back up.

"Please explain to me why you're refusing protection after a highly dangerous killer has informed you that a highly dangerous organisation wants you dead. And whilst you're at it, please also explain how said dangerous killer was in your house last night, and why I'm only finding out about it now."

"Well, about that..." Lisa chuckles nervously. "She's perfectly harmless, really."

Jisoo's eyes widen in realisation. "I knew it! Lisa, you've been compromised. I'm taking you off this case effective immediately."

"No! It's not like that, I swear!" Lisa quickly defends. "I think I can get through to her," she admits sheepishly, rubbing the back of her neck.

There's a long twenty seconds where Jisoo's face goes blank and she doesn't say anything.

"This is so much worse than I thought," she finally says.

"I think you should trust me on this, Jisoo."

"If trusting you means trusting a psychopath, then no, Lisa, I don't trust you, and I don't plan to."

"Jisoo, you haven't seen her up close. I have. She can be changed and help us. I'm sure of it."

Knitting her brows together, Jisoo is looking at Lisa with nothing but pity and Lisa hates it. "I'm worried you're forming an attachment to her, Lisa. I've been trying to push it aside for weeks, but I can't keep ignoring my gut feeling. You've been weird with her since the start."

Lisa frowns at the reference to her and Jennie's first meeting. "That's irrelevant and you know it."

"What about Bambam? Are you just forgetting that she killed your best friend?"
