TEN
Lisa flies home to South Korea on the same day she arrived in Amsterdam. It wasn't a part of the original plan, but it was necessary before she did anything else she would regret. Or rather, should regret.
Since Jisoo is still doing her job in South America, Lisa resumes her usual duties of working in the office until she comes back. She fills in her colleagues about the details of what happened in Sri Lanka and Amsterdam, leaving out an encounter with a certain lethal assassin.
When Jisoo returns two days later, they have a meeting to report all their progress.
"Okay, I have some important information," Jisoo addresses the detectives in the room. "But let's start with everyone else's reports."
"I've been keeping tabs on the bank account that's linked to the syndicate," Rosie says. "It was last used in Seoul before going completely off the grid."
Jisoo nods. "They probably found out we were tracing it. Anything else?"
"There's been no more suspicious kills in Asia that I could find." Somi mentions.
"They're staying clear because they know we're on to them." Jisoo points out. "Lisa, what about Amsterdam?"
"I found the assassin Kang told us about, Jeongyeon. She was dead when I got there. An eyewitness confirmed it was Ruby Jane. She pushed her in front of a train."
"And what about Ruby Jane? Did you manage to get close to her or find any leads?"
Lisa shakes her head.
"That's fine." Jisoo continues. "I'm not sure it matters much. I followed some leads in Brazil, and I discovered the crime syndicate is a private organisation with links to Chinese Intelligence." There are a few murmurs around the room. "But that's not all. I think I found the key to this entire case. A name that kept popping up, I'm pretty sure he's the leader of the organisation. He goes by Jax."
"Jax?" Lisa repeats and Jisoo confirms with a nod. "How do you know he's the leader?"
"I don't, for sure, but I'm sure he's a fair few levels higher than the assassins. All I have is the name. I've looked, but I can't find anything more. Rosie, can you get on that?"
"Of course." Rosie nods.
"That's all for now. I want everyone to go through whatever we have in relation to China with a fine-tooth comb. If it comes to taking a trip up there, then that's what we'll do."
"So, for now, no more fieldwork?" Lisa asks.
"That's right. I know it's not your favourite, but it needs to be done."
"And what about Ruby Jane?"
"What about her?"
"I still think she could be useful."
Jisoo sighs. "I need you in Korea for now, so you're more than welcome to do whatever you can to track her, but it needs to be here, where you can do your other work."
Lisa nods and thanks Jisoo before everyone resumes their work.
She had always despised office work. It beyond bored her. She became a detective so she could be out there, being active in the field. That's why after one hour of getting through whatever she can, she heads over to see what Rosie's doing.
"Whatchya doing?" She rolls her chair over to the Australian who is sitting in front of her laptop.
"My job, like you should be."
"Have you found anything?"
"Not yet. It's basically impossible considering the only thing I have is what's probably a nickname."
