NINETEEN
Jennie lay still in the imprint that Lisa had left in the bed until the next day when several agents came knocking to move her to a different location. Once again, she was not informed explicitly of the details and reasonings for her being moved, but made the mature decision to cooperate, only with a few snarky comments.
She soon found herself back in the department where Lisa worked, except this time, Lisa was nowhere to be found while Jennie was all alone in a small room. Jennie was aware that Lisa had been restricted from seeing her, but that didn't stop her from perking her head up at every new person entering the scene. After all, Lisa had already found a way before to see her.
Despite her high hopes, the only face that she had seen several times before was that of Kim Jisoo and the blonde girl that Lisa had disguised herself as. It was as they sat across the table from her when Jennie realised that Somi had taken Lisa's place, and she felt a powerful urge to put her in the hospital at that second, in the hope that it would drive Lisa to reclaim her place.
Driving her nails into her palms, Jennie resisted the urge. Lisa would be proud, she thought.
"Ruby Jane," it was Jisoo who addressed her, "you said that you could help us and that you needed some time to contact people. Are you ready to move on to the next step in your cooperation?"
"You took everything off me, including my means of communication. I don't know if we can move on if my handler hasn't been in touch."
Exchanging a look with Jisoo, Somi pulled out a phone and handed it to Jennie.
"This is the phone we took from you. It's been going off a lot in the past couple of days."
Jennie rolled her eyes as she took the phone. "Yeah, well, I don't know if you know, but my field of work requires my employers to communicate with me regularly, especially after a kill. It's not normal for me to go MIA for a few days, so if they don't trust me anymore, it's your fault."
"Well, between handling the case and babysitting you and your girlfriend, things haven't exactly been able to run on course," Jisoo argued back. "If they don't trust you anymore, we have no more use for you," she made a point to add.
Jennie gave Jisoo a cold look through hooded eyelids. Jisoo remained unfazed.
"Well, lucky for you, my handler has agreed to meet," Jennie revealed.
"When? Where?"
"Soon. In the next day or so. It can't be in Korea. With the business that already went down, it seems suspicious for me to be here."
"Well, we can fly you out anywhere," Jisoo said. "The closer the better, since it'll be quicker."
"I can arrange it now. I'll have to go alone, of course."
"You'll wear a wire," Somi said.
"I can't wear a wire, you idiot. Do you want me to die before I've even had a chance to get your information? Because I can tell you that I don't. I love my life and have no interest in dying."
"Do they normally search you?"
"No, but I don't normally go radio silent after asking them to meet. They have eyes everywhere. I don't know what they know."
"So then, surely it'll be safer for you to wear a wire," Somi pointed out. "If things go wrong, we'll know immediately and send a team in."
"I can handle myself and I'll be safer without a wire."
"We can't trust you." Somi leaned forward in her seat.
Jennie mimicked her actions. "Ask Lisa if you can trust me."
