TWELVE
Taking a long minute to gather herself, Lisa closes her eyes and fills her lungs up, and then empties them again before reopening her eyes. The bouquet in her hands is beautiful, her long snow-white dress flows all around her, and though she usually detested heels, when she takes
her first step forward, it feels exactly as it should. She's all smiles as she walks down the aisle, vaguely aware of the people watching her in this beautiful moment; their faces are kind of blurry anyway. She feels something grab her arm, and when she turns to look, she sees her dad. Lisa smiles wider. It had been a long time since she had seen him.
A man is waiting for her at the end of the aisle, dressed sharply in an expensive suit that fits him perfectly. When she gets closer, she realises it's her old boyfriend. In this moment, everything feels right and so she doesn't question a single thing.
Her dad releases her, and she takes her place standing opposite her ex-boyfriend, and now, very soon-to-be husband. He's smiling just as wide as she is. The Pastor beside them starts to speak. His words are kind of distorted, but it feels right. Everything is perfect.
Her intended steps closer to her and takes her hands. He starts to say something and Lisa is excited to hear it; she knows whatever it is, will make her heart burst.
But then, just as he opens his mouth, something terrible happens. Lisa can barely process it before there's blood spurting all over her face and onto her snow-white dress. She can do nothing but watch in horror as the man in front of her has his throat slit, gasping for air and then realising he's unable to, dropping to the ground and ceasing to exist.
Lisa drops down, screams and calls for help, but no one else even reacts. A shadow comes over her, prompting her to look back up when she sees the person responsible for this.
"Hi, baby," Jennie's voice is sultry and warm and enticing. Lisa gets back to her feet and looks at Jennie helplessly.
"What have you done?" She cries out, looking down at the man who still had blood seeping out of him on the floor between them.
"I did what I had to. Now we can be together," Jennie replies with a pitiful expression, stepping forward as if there's not a dead body between them.
Lisa doesn't move back or even flinch as Jennie closes the distance between them. That's when Lisa notices that Jennie's wearing a snow-white wedding dress that flowed around her just as Lisa was. The Thai woman's eyes widen in panic, but Jennie just smiles at her and grabs her hand. They're warm and wet, and when Lisa looks down she can see they have blood on them, and now Lisa's did too, but Lisa still didn't flinch back.
Averting her gaze back up, Lisa sees Jennie is smiling. Like that day at the hospital, it's cute and gummy and definitely not one of a serial killer and all Lisa wants to do is lean in and kiss her, and she knows that means she'll be breaking first, but right now she doesn't care. She just wants to kiss Jennie and maybe even marry her in front of her dad, all her friends, and family.
Then she remembers her ex on the floor again and how he had been killed in front of an audience but there was not even a single gasp. Even now, as she held Jennie's hands, Lisa's face and both of their dresses bloody, there's still dead silence.
Her head snaps around to where she had seen everyone watching her walk down the aisle and she gasps but it hitches in her throat, and then she can't breathe. Every single body was on the floor, dead, lying in a river of blood.
The faces are clear now. She can see not only her dad but also her mum, Jisoo, Rosie, Somi, and everyone she cares about. They're all dead and there's still blood on her hands and she still cannot breathe.
