FOURTEEN
It's been almost a week since Lisa had last seen Jennie and it was taking all she had not to physically track her down. So far, she had been keeping an ear out for any kills that would lead her to her, but there was nothing.
She wondered if getting her phone number so they could talk at any time would be crossing the line.
She knew it would be.
It was beyond frustrating. Laying in bed with her for hours had done nothing to appease her. She thought about the cat-eyed killer every minute of the day. Everything else bored her.
The only thing that was keeping her mind sane was work, at least there she had people around her. Although, Jisoo had left to follow a lead and had been gone for the past day. Lisa had no idea where she had gone or when she'd be coming back, but she knows how their job goes and didn't doubt that her boss would be in contact with her soon enough.
In the past, Lisa was notorious for arriving to work late, especially when the day was consisting mostly of office work. However, as of late, Lisa had made a habit of arriving even before her colleagues.
On this particular day, Lisa is riding the elevator up to her floor, coffee in hand, when the doors open and it drops to the floor, along with her jaw.
"Hey, baby."
Was this another dream? Surely it had to be. Jennie killing everyone at her wedding seemed more feasible than the woman she had been obsessively thinking about standing in front of her at this very second, in her place of work.
"Lisa. You're early." Jisoo steps in front of her, simultaneously blocking Jennie from her sight. Lisa catches a glimpse of Jennie being pulled away before Jisoo instructs her to follow her to her office.
It's not until Jennie is completely out of sight that Lisa moves her feet, forcing them to follow her boss rather than Jennie.
"Jisoo. What. The. Fuck." Lisa barely waits until the door is closed before demanding an explanation.
"Sit down, Lisa, and I'll fill you in." Jisoo gestures to the empty seat, which Lisa takes after huffing.
"Okay. So, tell me," she asks again impatiently.
"Ruby Jane was in New York. I've been keeping an ear out and caught wind of her ending up in hospital."
"Hospital?" Lisa quickly interrupts. "Is she okay?"
"Yes. She's fine. She suffered a stab wound to the shoulder during a killing, but she'll be fine."
"What's going to happen to her?" Lisa asks and Jisoo doesn't miss the way her brows furrow and her eyes squint a little.
"That's up to her. I've offered her a deal - to either come work for us or go to prison."
"Not much of a deal. Why would she choose prison?"
"Because she's unhinged, Lisa," Jisoo says. "Besides, as far as we know, she broke out of her last one. What's to stop her from doing it again?"
"Okay, so, how do we convince her?"
"Not we. You," Jisoo says sternly, as if not liking how this is even an option. "She'll listen to you, right? You said so yourself."
"I'll try my best."
"You better, because she will be sent to a maximum-security penitentiary, and if it means less risk of her getting out, she will spend the rest of her days in solitary confinement."
Lisa's face scrunches in disapproval. "That's cruel."
"Well then, it fits her perfectly," Jisoo snaps back.
