Nervous was an understatement.
It's seven in the evening and I was sitting on the couch in the lobby, waiting for Lorelei to come around the corner like she'd done just over a week ago with Anastasia attached at the hip, wearing that gorgeous blue dress that accentuated all the right features.
This time, it would be just her and I at a nice restaurant in the heart of Vegas and I had something extravagant planned for afterward, which she doesn't know about. As soon as we leave, Jake and Anastasia are going in my room to make it romantic with the flower petals and candles I bought. Cliche, I know, but Anastasia mentioned at one point that she was into all things romantic, even though it sure as hell doesn't seem like it.
I stood as soon as I saw her exit the elevator, wearing a black, skin-tight dress showing off every single thing I loved about her with black heels to match. Her favorite pink purse was thrown over her shoulder as she made her way over to me, hair pinned back on one side.
She was beautiful.
She's always beautiful - that lopsided smile of hers was captivating, no matter how many times I'd seen it already.
My smile was involuntary as she approached, eyeing me up and down. "You look just ravishing, don't you?" She grinned, fixing the collar on the black button-up I had on. Her tone was playful, excited, which made me feel relieved. I didn't want to freak her out by taking her on a real date by ourselves, like I figured she might, so I'm glad she doesn't seem freaked out yet.
"Not as ravishing as you." I pecked her on the cheek, her soft skin radiating the warmth I often found comforting. I offered her my arm and she linked hers with mine as we waltzed out of the lobby and into the cool evening air. Compared to our last stops, the weather here was more ideal. It was chilly, but not enough to wear a coat. Lorelei's velvet sleeves would be more than enough to keep her warm on the way to the restaurant, but I wasn't sure about the way back. It was only a ten minute walk down the street as out hotel is part of the busiest area in town.
Her heels made her a few inches taller, so she was about eye level to me now, which isn't hard to achieve, in complete honesty. She smelled of vanilla and strawberry, a scent I craved every time we were apart. I'd become accustomed to her perfume and body wash as I'm sure she had with mine.
There were less photographers in Las Vegas than in Los Angeles, thankfully, but they surrounded the downtown area because it was crawling with the richest people near the west coast, casinos and bars littering the town. We encountered a few flashes on the way, Lorelei keeping a straight face in each. She liked to do that - stay serious in public and let loose in private. I always wondered why, but didn't want to ask.
"Those are gonna turn out really well." She nudged me in the side, sending me a short smile.
God, you're so pretty.
