Chapter 19

I spent the entire afternoon with Blake. Even though he admitted I would never be able to leave his land, he 'didn't want to take any chances'.

From the two weeks I had spent with Dylan, I had never seen or been interested in his duties as an Alpha.

It turned out- everyone wanted to be part of your life.

Blake received calls to no end, but he ignored most of them.

Many pack members wanted to come to his house because they needed one thing or another.

For that reason, Blake had a watch on his house- so that even members that shouldn't pass- didn't.

It was about 10 o'clock at night when Blake finally finished his day.

We were sitting in the dining room. I had volunteered to prepare dinner for us- wanting to get on his good side.

"I must say, you're a great cook," Blake complimented me, taking a piece of steak, and eating it.

When I asked him earlier what his favorite meal was, he said he loved steak with some buttered potatoes and a pasta on the side.

It wasn't exactly a quick and easy meal to prepare, but I still did it.

At a certain point, I thought he chose the meal because he thought I wouldn't be able to make it- but I did.

At least my work had paid off when he seemed to really be enjoying the meal.

"Thank you. Now that you have some free time, I have a proposition for you," I told him, trying to find something that would get his attention.

"I doubt it will be anything that interests me, but let's hear it," he said.

"Can you just let me go, and if anything happens, you can just pretend that I was never here?" I asked, hoping he'd agree.

"Leila, I'm not keeping you here as punishment. If my mate ran away or someone stole her from me- I would want the same courtesy that I'm giving to you, to be given to my mate," he explained, looking straight at me.

"What if he doesn't want me back?" I asked him.

Blake looked taken aback by my question, and remained thoughtful.

"He will always want you back," was his reply.

"So that's it? Even if I don't want to go back," which in reality I did, "you would still force me to go back with him?"

"How's your wolf taking it?" Blake answered with a question.

"My wolf is fine, and wanting to get out of here," I lied.

"Okay, so you want to escape your mate. Why don't you just stay here?"

"What?" I asked confused.

"If all you want is to escape from him, why not just settle in my pack. You would have a home, and my protection."

"But, I'm a rogue."

"You've mentioned that, quite a few times. If you settle here, you will become part of my pack, and no longer be a rogue," Blake replied.

"I can't. I need to get away," I answered, my voice unconsciously sounding alarmed.

Blake raised an eyebrow and gave me a questioning look.

"What exactly are you running away from?"

"You already know. I'm running from my mate," I replied, trying to sound truthful.

I really was running from my mate, but it was all because I didn't want my other pack to fine me, and hurt Dylan and his pack.

"He can't do anything to you. He's your mate. If you don't tell me, I can't exactly help you."

I looked away from Blake's eyes, fearing he would see the panic in mine.

If I hadn't told Dylan about what happened with my pack, I didn't think it was fair for me to tell Blake.

My wolf was in the process of trusting him, but she didn't want for me to let my guard down.

"Are you friends with any of the Alphas?" I asked Blake, trying to test the waters.

If he ended up knowing my former Alpha, Alpha Nicolas, or even Dylan, there was no way I would be telling him anything.

"I know who all eleven of them are, but I've only met a few, or spoken with them over the phone," he admitted.

I nodded my head, and tried to think how I should play my next words. I had to keep my face stoic, so that any name he mentioned would have no effect on me.

"Can you tell me who you know?" I asked softly. I had noticed Blake responded nicer to me when I seemed vulnerable.

Either he really was playing me, or he was just a good guy who was easy to read.

"I know John from Blue Bloods Pack, Anthony from Mountains Peak, Jackson from Staten Pack, Dylan from Midnight Moon, and Caine from the Locus Pack," Blake said.

All the blood felt like it had drained from my face.

If it wasn't because I was trying really hard not to show my emotions, I probably would've fainted.
