Immunity Fire

Chapter 21

The time has arrived! The time to reveal the true hero of the story; a story untold!

Everyone in the amphitheatre was screaming with excitement. Some were thinking that they wouldn't have to study survival and combat anymore once the hero has been revealed.

Alex felt nervous. His body was shaking with anxiety. He knew that all the hours with Alberron, the exhaustion, and all the challenges he has faced in the past three years have led to this moment. He has memorized the rune book that Barlows gave to him and read it more than once. He knew that he had to step up his game to face the troubles of life.

He wore bronze armour with a sword and shield and a quiver of arrows on his back. As he entered the arena, it appeared to be a gladiator arena. The peoples of the Three Cities were there to witness the rise of the chosen one. All the third years were alongside him; including Zain and Natalie. Zain wore the same armour as Alex, whilst Lucas and Natalie wore silver armour.

Zain noticed Alex but tried to resist eye contact. Alex wanted to see his eyes for the first time in two years but could only see the side of his face.

"Trainees approach forward!" Barlows commanded through a speakerphone.

As the trainees came right to the centre of the arena, they saw holographic people prepared to fight them. The trainees unleashed their weapons. The holograms seemed to be rather tall and carried large axes and spears; few of them were as large as a mini giant. In the beginning, the trainees would have been afraid and feel unprepared; but they felt more confident and strong.

"You all will fight these waves of armies. There are 350 of them per wave out of 3! Those who kill the most shall be the winner and ahead in the next round. There are thirty of you; the ten trainees who have the least shall not proceed to the next task. Good luck! Get your weapons ready!"

The holograms and trainees took their stances and were ready.

"3! 2! 1! FIGHT!"

The crowd screamed.

Alex ran towards the hologram his size and took his first defence. The two were plying pressure on their swords until Alex broke its defence and took a swing from the bottom left to the top right; the hologram exploded into pieces.

Natalie kept running and jumping over trainees and holograms and shooting multiple arrows before she lands. She went down and skied between a hologram's legs and shot it upwards and exploded. She finished the ski and stood in a spider position and continued running to choose her next target.

Zain had an axe. He had to take on multiple holograms surrounding him with no single space between them. He realized he had no chance. Zain took out a boomerang that popped out tiny blades around and threw it; it flew around him taking all the holograms from one to the next; the boomerang came back to his grasp and closed.

Lucas was partnered with Chuck and Kahn. Chuck and Khan grabbed Lucas and threw him to the hologram and Lucas kicked it in the face. "Woohoo!"

Two girls were alongside each other and threw grenades and killed fifteen holograms.

Natalie kept jumping and dodging and shooting until she was facing a mini giant. She froze, thinking that it was beyond her ability. It had a long thick beard with bushy hair and a ginormous axe. It tried to take a swing but Natalie dodged it with a slide flip to the right. She kept dodging and taking multiple shots but she kept missing or shooting a part of invincible armour.

Alex dodged a spear with a knee drop with a spear flying over him. He then took his dagger and threw it and killed the target. "Really? Who the hell would unarm themselves with the most ridiculous miss?"

Lucas had two swords and kept killing two holograms at once. He then started to twist his wrists around so that his swords would make a spinning wheel action, killing multiple targets instantly. Some holograms tried to shoot arrows but the swords kept pushing them away like a force field. Lucas took his right sword and threw it to cut the hologram in half and came back like a boomerang.

Zain took all his strength and swung his axe around and took out eight holograms surrounding him.

Natalie was taken by the neck against the wall. She was choking whilst the giant was squeezing the life out of her.

"NATALIE!" Alex screamed, "TAKE THIS!!!" He threw a large looking pen.

Natalie caught the pen and clicked it. Then a massive blade popped out and pierced the giant and exploded right in her face. She fell down and landed unpleasantly.

Alex took her, "Come! Follow me! We have gotta find Zain!"

Zain had a rifle and kept shooting the holograms and never missed a shot. Alex and Natalie approached him.

"Zain! We have gotta stick together!"

"Why?!" Zain replied.

"I don't want to go to the final round alone. I want you guys beside me."

"Look Alex we haven't got time for some awkward reunion! Just leave me alone!"

"Zain I miss you! I can't take it anymore! I'mso sorry! I've wanted to tell you that but I never got the chance! Please staywith me!" Alex took Zain by the shoulder and whispered in his ear, "Please staywith me."
