Kol was ready to kill Klaus.

Catalina had tried to run away the instant she processed that something wasn't right. She thought she had the benefit of a distraction to escape. But Kol snapped her neck before she could get too far, because he knew that if she left now, he'd never find her again.

"How could you?" he snarled to his brother as soon as he set her body on the ground. "You bastard!" He slammed his fists into the hybrid's chest, throwing him backwards. "I should tear your bloody head off for this!"

Klaus collided with the wall, and the cave rumbled, several loose rocks falling around them. The hybrid only laughed. "But you won't, little brother," he said wickedly, "because I'm the only one who can undo the compulsion. We've established that the daggers do not work on me. If you were even close to successful when it came to killing me, there would be a chance that the compulsion would lock in rather than fade. She would be left that way forever."

"This is all out of jealousy, isn't it?" sneered Kol. "No one has ever stood at your side for so long without fault. Not Elijah or Rebekah, your most precious siblings. They've always turned their backs on you at one point. Is that why you were so cruel to her, all these years? You envied me, because of her devotion? You wished someone would be as loyal to you as she was to me? Perhaps it reminded you of your mistakes with your first sireling. After all, this mess started because you took his girl!"

"Do not speak of them!" spat Klaus. "Or I will tear this whelp's head off and you'll never have her again."

"I'll speak of it all I wish!" retorted Kol. "You had Aurora, and you had Lucien as your right-hand-man, then you ruined it all! If it's anyone's fault that we got into so many bloody problems, it's yours! You lied about Mikael killing our mother, you voted for us to stay together when it was a smarter choice to split up. How dare you stand here proud as can be about ruining the one constant in my bloody life?"

Klaus sped to him, about to bite into his neck, but Kol managed to kick him back, and sped forward, yanking Klaus's arm and dislocating his shoulder, which caused the hybrid to rip away from his hold.

"This is all meant to be a distraction, isn't it?" accused Kol as Klaus popped his arm back into place with a growl. "You don't want me interfering in whatever you're plotting. So you did this, to keep me occupied with trying to restore her memories. Well, you're in for a surprise, Niklaus, because I will channel every last fiber of fury into making you suffer for this."

Klaus pointed down at Catalina's unconscious body. "Perhaps you should be more focused on what she'll do when she wakes up. You cannot keep snapping her neck forever. I made her think that you abandoned her in Spain. I made her think that after taking her virtue, you left her to fend for herself, newly turned. She loathes you, brother. So you will, indeed, be occupied with her."

Kol gritted his teeth. "How did you do it? There's no way you were able to make her forget everything!"

"It was rather easy," said Klaus, smirking. "Therefore, you can figure that out on your own. You can make your way home on your own as well. Mother expects you at the ball. With or without Catalina."

Klaus sped away, and Kol was left alone with the other vampire.

She woke up once they'd exited the cave. She'd immediately tried to flee, and Kol had had no choice but to snap her neck once more. He'd done it repeatedly until at long last, they were back in Mystic Falls.

"What the bloody hell are you doing?" said Rebekah in disbelief, when he walked through the front door with his lover's body slung over his shoulder. "Is that—? Kol! Why would you bring her here?"
