Becoming a witch was surprisingly easy.
Maybe because she'd always been talented when it came to learning spells. Maybe because Kol was probably the best teacher Catalina could have asked for. Maybe because she was motivated by the fact that she was alive again, after being on the Other Side for over a year.
"Very good, darling," said Kol once September came. They'd been training for four months. Keeping to themselves, going grocery shopping, attending witch meetings in the Lafayette Cemetery and supporting 'Cassie' as she allied with the wolves.
"I did it right," said Catalina proudly, seeing she'd successfully managed the same Kemiya spell they'd had the witches do in Greece. "Am I ready now?"
"I think you are," said Kol. "I ran you through every last type of magic I know. If you're not ready, then Esther can train you herself. She said that after today, we'll be starting with our plan. Now that you're a good little witch, she should clue us into it. She and Finn have been making moonlight rings for ages already. Something's gotta be ready for us to do."
"Vincent," Catalina corrected. "We have to get used to the names even in private... just to be safe. We never know who's listening. Come on, let's go to the cemetery and see what she has to say."
They found Esther and Finn in the Lycée, as always. They seemed to be working on a spell.
"Good, you're here," said Esther. "Finn and I must leave soon, to return to the Guerrera household."
Kol rubbed his hands together. "Got something for us to do, Mother?"
"As a matter of fact, yes," said Esther. "Finn has already been given his task. He's going to befriend Camille O'Connell. She has an inventory of dark objects that may be of use to us. And she will serve other purposes as well. He's going to put in a good word with Camille for you, Catalina. You mentioned that you learned to make several drinks while on the Other Side, observing bartenders. Camille words at Rousseau's. I want you to work there with her. Niklaus frequents that bar, and I want you to get to know him."
Catalina glared at her. "Is this a joke? You do realize that prat is the reason I don't have my memories, right? He tormented me. We hate each other."
"Catalina and Klaus hate each other," Esther corrected. "But you're supposed to be Elizabeth. Muster up every good feeling you have for him. I don't need you to flirt with him. Just befriend him. Get him to trust you. The Mikaelsons will need a witch on their side when they inevitably try to take down Francesca Guerrera... which should happen tonight. I need you to take this..." she handed her a pile of mail, "to the Mikaelson Compound later this evening. Pretend that you accidentally had this mailed to you, and you came to return it. The moonlight rings will leave him weak, he cannot hurt you. Offer your help. From there, he will start to trust you. And maybe, he will tell you a few important things we may need to know. Understood?"
Catalina just swallowed hard, feeling nervous as Esther stared at her coldly. "Alright."
"As for you, Kol," said Esther, "you're going to get to know Davina Claire. Follow her around. Get to know her, too. She's abandoned the Coven and enrolled in high school. You needn't go to school with her, but you must be around her. I sense she has something hidden. I need you to find out what that is, and see what else she can tell you. She may be useful to us."
"Hold on," piped up Catalina. "Kol is going to charm a teenage girl... that'll be easy. You're putting me in a position of becoming pals with the most paranoid man to ever walk the planet. How am I going to get him to open up? One spell won't guarantee his kindness, if he even has it in him to be kind."
