The safe house certainly wasn't boring.

There was always something to do. Whether it was helping with cooking, staying alert to make sure Elijah didn't attack Cami, or breaking the Mikaelsons out of a Chambre de Chasse.

Well, Catalina didn't technically break them out alone. Klaus and Elijah had done the work in there, and Kol had helped her with a disruptive spell when he'd awoken in the real world.

It made them want to work harder on their spell. The dagger had to be completed soon. Klaus would soon be on a warpath if Finn wasn't taken down in the next several days. And if things didn't go as planned, he might just choose to retaliate against Kol.

"We know Finn's up to something," said Kol one evening while he and Catalina were brainstorming. "For him to have trapped the wolves and vampires in that house, he's got to be channeling something quite powerful. That sort of power could grant him the ability to do any spell he's been dying to do. And I fear it's only a matter of time before he realizes what the secrecy is about."

The two looked over at Hope, who was in her playpen, wiggling around and waving her toys in the air.

"I think I should return to New Orleans," said Kol, making Catalina frown. "Don't give me that look, Tere. One of us needs to take the nearly completed dagger to Davina and walk her through the spell to finish it off."

"But going back to that city is dangerous," she said. "You just mentioned Finn might be channeling something really strong. Who knows what he's up to? He could want to hurt you for what he perceives as a betrayal."

"I'm sure it'll all be fine," said Kol. "I just have to be quick about it. Who knows, I might be able to figure out what his next move is if I'm careful enough."

Catalina still didn't think this was a good idea. "Finn only recently found out that Klaus turned your mother into a vampire. He's gonna be furious. He'll hurt you."

"Not if he doesn't find me. It's alright, love, I'll be staying at the Compound between traveling so I'm safe."

She sighed. "Well, clearly you're gonna go whether I want you to or not."

"Because someone has to, and I don't wish for it to be you."

"Can't we both go? Safety in numbers."

"And who's going to be here to protect Cami and Hope if Elijah loses his mind again?"

She huffed. "Sometimes, you seem to care too little about your safety."

"But I care completely for yours," he noted. "Makes up for it, right?"

He'd left the next morning, saying that he'd be back in time to give her all the pre-wedding gossip he heard about Hayley and Jackson (the Crescent Wolf Pack Alpha), who would apparently be getting married to protect Hope.

"Maybe we should do something fun today," suggested Catalina, who couldn't sit still once Kol was gone. "I don't feel like being here today."

"That might be a good idea," said Cami. She took her eyes off of Hope for only a second, when suddenly, they both heard a wail, and saw that a small plate had fallen onto her head when she tugged at the fabric beneath it.

"Oh!" cried Cami as Elijah came running. "She yanked the tablecloth and that knick-knack fell on her! It's just a scratch."

"Let's see," said Catalina, examining the wound. "You'll be okay, but you do need a band-aid... Elijah?"

He was breathing in a ragged manner, staring at the blood on his niece's forehead. "Yes," he said softly. "Forgive me." He rushed out of the room, and returned with a band-aid, which had cupcakes on it.
