The room seemed so small with Moreno inside. Like, the nerve of reaveling such confidential information to her beloved daughter. The thing is he is the reason my life...now I keep blaming people for ruining my life.
We sat in the silence, uneasy because I didn't know what to do. Why was he waiting now? I felt my insides slowly shrinking into small peices. I felt the chamber of my chest hyperventilating.
What is it he wanted to say? Now that I'm just looking forward to see my mother."It's your mother." The doctor said.
" What's wrong with her?" I panicked. "The results came back today and we saw that the cardiac arrest was quite severe and the scans showed that chances of her surviving through this are very slim. Infact there are none. She has already died so today we have to switch off the machines." He said taking off his specs and giving me a pity look. He started shaking.
" You're crazy!" I raised my voice whilst standing up. "That'll never happen okay, forget about it." I started crying, pacing up and down again. "Moreno do you even care about me,huh? " I cried. Tracy came over and rubbed my shoulder. This made me cry even more. I can't afford to lose my lover and only bestfriend. Why?
It took me atleast 30 minutes to say another word as the doctors sat patiently."Knock knock" I raised my head to see my slim, tall father hovering the door. I stood up and hugged him and started wailing again. "May you excuse us?" He begged.
"Patrick my son" he said wiping my tears as he looked at me. "You still have me, okay? Its not the end of the world." He said trying to comfort me. "Fuck everything right now, I want my mom okay? And I won't let a stupid doctor tell me she won't survive...she is a fighter I know. This can't be happ...happ..happening" I cried out loud.
"It's okay, I'll organize everything for you! The funeral will be as perfect as your mother wanted it. I love you" he said softly. "Now let's go over and say our last words to her."
"How could you be so insesetive..you pretending to care now that she has to die. You left us. Didn't you?" I said pushing him. "So stop making it like you care, because I knew you dont!"Today was a painful Saturday. Nothing but suffering and pain. I got up and hurried over a bench to my mother's ward. stood up once again, pausing at the ward door to observe her lying quietly in bed. I had to stop crying. I continued to hold her and touch her face to confirm that what was happening was actually happening. I wasn't having a dream. "Mom, I adore you. I wasn't planning on bringing you here. I didn't mean to do that ".
"Just do it." That is all I managed to say. "Are you sure my son?" I looked at the doctor with bloodshot eyes, and obviously with a frown that scared everyone.
He went over the monitor. He exhaled a heavy breath and looked at my father standing behind me with his hands folded into a fist, placing them on his lips. I started singing her favourite song."I heard the was a secret chord. That David played and it pleased the Lord.
Well, I heard there was a secret chord
That David played and it pleased the Lord
But you don't really care for music, do you?
Well it goes like this:
The fourth, the fifth, the minor fall and the major lift
The baffled king composing Hallelujah."I sighed.
"Hallelujah....Hallelujah...Hallelujah...Hallelu..uujah."
My heart was torn apart by the monitor's continuous beep. She appeared to be moving her chest up as if something were stealing her soul. She tightened her hold on the bed linens, acting as though she were still alive yet dead. While I sobbed, the incessant beep continued to ring. The entire hospital was awash with the cries. Right in front of me was everything I knew as my life had ended. The hulking doctor lifted the oxygen mask from my mother's nose and covered the rest of her face. Tracy remained still. She sobbed in silence.
I felt the air inside the ward disappearing on me. Everything went hazy and blurry. I felt my chest closing in on me. I went on back to land on the hands of my stern farther. I blacked out once again.
