you woke up, sweating, tears running down your face. it had been years since you escaped hydra, but the damage they had caused you would haunt you forever.

after you originally escaped, you had found yourself lost. all your friends and family from the war time were all gone, leaving you in a world you no longer belonged in. after suffering for many years, learning how to live a life with the modern technology around, you were finally settling into the new time frame you were in. it had come to you a shock when an old friend reached out to you, after he swore he had seen you crossing the street one morning.

flashback**
"steve? what are you doing here? i thought you were dead." you were in a pure state of shock, one of your two childhood best friends was stood in front of you. "what happened to you, y/n?" he sighed, pulling you in for a hug you both clearly needed.
after the original encounter you had with steve, you both became very close again, him even introducing you to the avengers. you had found a level of happiness until the avengers fell apart, and steve never returned after he promised he was only returning the infinity stones.
it was currently 2:46am, and you were on the phone to sam wilson. "so you're telling me, you want me to come help you with some guy you and your friend broke out of a maximum security prison, yeah?" you asked in disbelief. "that's the nice way of putting it." sam laughed through the phone. "i don't find you funny. you're definitely trying to kill me or some crap." you sighed. "haven't you been dead like three times anyway?" your friend reminded, you could feel him smirking down the other end of the line. "text me the address, i'll be there for ten." you replied, before hanging up, questioning what you just got yourself into.
you walked over to sam, who was smirking at you already. "y'know, you can make it a fourth time if you want." you stated dryly, before walking ahead of him slightly. he laughed, before guiding you to two men. your eyebrows knitted together in confusion but also shock. "bucky?" you questioned, your whole body tensing up. he turned, examining you, but he stayed silent. zemo stood there, watching the encounter unfold before bucky turned to him, guiding him onto the jet.
"she's very good looking, you know." zemo stated, breaking the tension. bucky didn't hesitate to jump out of his seat, his hand wrapped around zemo's throat. "speak about her like that again, and it'll be the last thing you do." he warned, before taking his seat opposite the you.
it had been a few hours since the flight landed, and you and bucky had been left alone for the first time since your reunion. "you don't have to be an ass all your life bucky, just talk to me for gods sake." you finally announced, annoyed at his ignorance towards you. "you were missing for decades. i thought you were dead." he stated dryly. "after i fell from the train, i was dragged away and held captive for years, do you understand the torture i experienced?" he questioned aggressively, raising his voice. you stood up. "it's clear you went through some crap buck, but haven't you realised that both of us had to have, or else we'd both be dead, like everyone else we knew. i'm not stupid, i just care." you fired back.
"why?" he questioned, his focus solely on the wall in front of him. you moved into his line of sight. "because you're all i have left. everyone else is gone buck, and i know damn well you feel the same. we need each other." you argued.
he stood up, walking towards you, which caused you to walk backwards, until your back hit the wall behind you. "of course i care, y/n, i never stopped thinking of you after i got my memory back, cos i wished that i'd done something about it when we were kids." he stated, before leaning down and connecting your lips, as if he'd never get the chance to again.
