it was another hot, sunny day in the cut and we decided to go out on the boat and enjoy the weather, even after the storm the night before. the majority of the cut had been left without power and we had to make do, so spending time out on the water was a normal pass time for the group. "i'm telling you!" jj argued, pulling his sunglasses on to the top of his head. "and i don't believe you!" pope replied, grinning at him. "i could actually do well if i wanted to." jj continued his rant, myself and kiara rolling our eyes at the pair of boys, while john b seemed to be enjoying the discussion taking place before him. i cracked open a can of beer, sighing as i leant back, closing my eyes. the boys had shut up for now, and i was enjoying the silence around the group that i knew wouldn't last very long. "hey." jj smiled, sitting down next to me, crossed legged. i sat up, facing the blonde, who surprisingly looked happier than usual. "hey." i returned, taking a sip from the cool drink in my hand. "you okay?" he asked, tilting his head slightly. "yeah. are you?" i asked. he nodded, turning momentarily to glance at the other three who were deep in conversation. "my dad's laid off the booze for now." he looked down at his fingers at the mention of his father, chewing his lip. "i'm just praying he doesn't go back at it ten times harder next time." he sighed, now playing with the rings on his fingers. "my offer still stands, maybank. maybe it's time to come stay with me for a little when he does get back at it." i told him, hating that i even had to offer him that release. "maybe." the blonde's gaze was still focused on the rings.
"we're going for a swim!" john b called. "stay with the boat?" he followed with i question. "yeah. have fun!" i smiled at the trio as they jumped into the water. my gaze then turned back to jj who was once again fiddling with the jewellery. i grabbed his hand, pulling it towards me. "things will get better. i promise." i tried to reassure him. "how do you know?" he asked, his eyebrows knitted together. "because everything happens for a reason, jj." i sighed, scooting next to him and laying my head on his shoulder.
he smiled down at me, planting a small kiss on the top of my head before laying his on top of mine. "i hope you're right, y/n." he whispered.
